Configuration Process
This topic describes the process of configuring EPL services for Ethernet switching boards.
Prerequisites
Background Information
In practice, if Ethernet switching boards are different from the boards in this example, you need to
learn about the requirements when configuring the boards.
For the EVPL services supported by Ethernet switching boards, see Supported Ethernet
Services.
For the VCTRUNK binding requirements of Ethernet switching boards, seeRequirements for
Binding Paths to VCTRUNKs.
Procedure
Port PORT1: Enabled PORT1 is used by the service of user A1. PORT2 is
Enabled PORT2: Enabled used by the service of user B1. In this case, this
parameter are set to Enabled for PORT1 and PORT2.
MAC PORT1: Non-Loopback The MAC loopback setting is used for fault diagnosis.
Loopback PORT2: Non-Loopback When configuring a service, set this parameter

to Non-Loopback.
PHY PORT1: Non-Loopback The PHY loopback setting is used for fault diagnosis.
Loopback PORT2: Non-Loopback When configuring a service, set this parameter
to Non-Loopback.
Click the Flow Control tab. Set the parameters to the default values. For the default
values, see Flow Control
Click the TAG Attributes tab. After setting the parameters, click Apply. For the
values of the parameters, see TAG Attributes.
Entry PORT1: Disabled The services of user A1 and user B1 are EPL
Detection PORT2: Disabled transparent transmission services. Thus, you do
not need to enable the entry detection function to
check the VLAN tags of the packets. The entry
detection should be set to Disabled.
When Entry Detection is set to Disabled, the
parameters of TAG, Default VLAN ID,
and VLAN Priority are invalid.
Tag PORT1: Access The access equipment of user A1 and user B1
PORT2: Access does not support the VLAN. Thus, the access
equipment only transmits the packet without the
VLAN tag. It is recommended that you set the
TAG flags at PORT1 and PORT2 to Access.
Default PORT1: 1 The services of user A1 and user B1 independently
VLAN ID PORT2: 1 occupy the PORT and VCTRUNK. Thus, the VLAN ID is
unnecessary for isolating the services. This parameter
is set to the default value.
VLAN PORT1: 0 Both the VLAN ID and VLAN priority are unnecessary
Priority PORT2: 0 for users A1 and B1. This parameter is set to the
default value.
Click the Network Attributes tab. After setting the parameters, click Apply. For the
values of the parameters, see Network Attributes.
PORT1: 1522 PE indicates the provider edge. The port with the PE

PORT2: 1522 attribute can receive and transmit the standard

Ethernet frames.
Entry VCTRUNK1: Disabled The services of user A1 and user B1 are EPL
Detection VCTRUNK2: Disabled transparent transmission service. Thus, you do not
need to enable the entry detection to check the
VLAN tags of the packets. The entry detection
should be set to Disabled.
When Entry Detection is set
to Disabled, TAG, Default VLAN ID,
and VLAN Priority should be set to the default
values.
Click the Network Attributes tab. After setting the parameters, click Apply. For the
values of the parameters, see Network Attributes.
Option Description
Click the Bound Path tab. After setting the parameters, click OK. For the values of
the parameters, see Bound Paths.
A2 Level VC12 The service between user A1 and user A2 uses the
bandwidth of 10Mbit/s. Five VC-12s need to be
bound.
For the method of computing the bound timeslots
based on the service bandwidth, see How to
Calculate Bandwidths Carried by VCTRUNKs
Service Bidirectional The service between user A1 and user A2 is a
Direction bidirectional service.
User A1 Service Type EPL The service of user A1 is the EPL service.
Source Port PORT1 When creating the bidirectional Ethernet service from
a PORT to a VCTRUNK, it is recommended that you use
a specific PORT as the source port. The service of User
A1 occupies port1.
Source VLAN Blank In this example, the EPL service does not carry the
(e.g. 1, 3-6) VLAN tag.
Sink Port VCTRUNK1 When creating the bidirectional Ethernet service from
a PORT to a VCTRUNK, it is recommended that you use
a specific VCTRUNK as the sink port. The service of
User A1 occupies VCTRUNK.
Sink VLAN (e.g. Blank In this example, the EPL service does not carry the
1, 3-6) VLAN tag.
User B1 Service Type EPL The service of user B1 is the EPL service.
Source Port PORT2 When creating the bidirectional Ethernet service from
a PORT to a VCTRUNK, it is recommended that you use
a specific PORT as the source port. The service of User
B1 occupies port2.
Source VLAN Blank In this example, the EPL service does not carry the
(e.g. 1, 3-6) VLAN tag.
Sink Port VCTRUNK2 When creating the bidirectional Ethernet service from
a PORT to a VCTRUNK, it is recommended that you use
a specific VCTRUNK as the sink port. The service of

d. Configure the cross-connections from Ethernet services to the SDH links for users A1
and B1.
In the NE Explorer, click NE1 and choose Configuration > SDH Service
Configuration from the Function Tree.
Click Create in the lower part of the pane on the right. Set the required parameters
in Create SDH Service dialog box that is displayed.
Level VC12 The SDH service of NE1, which passes through NE2, is at the VC12
level.
Direction Bidirectional As shown in Figure 1, the SDH service from NE1 to NE2 is a
bidirectional service.
Source Slot Source port: 11- As shown in Figure 1, the service signals are transmitted from 11-
N1SL16 (SDH-1) N2SL16-1(SDH-1) to 8-N2SL16-1(SDH-1). In this case, this
parameter is set to 11-N2SL16-1(SDH-1).
Source VC4 VC4-1 VC4-1 is allocated to the service from NE1 to NE2.
Source 1-15 The service between user A1 and user B1 uses timeslots 1-15.

Sink slot Source port: 8- As shown in Figure 1, the service signals are transmitted from 11-
N1SL16 (SDH-1) N2SL16-1(SDH-1) to 8-N2SL16-1(SDH-1). In this case, this
parameter is set to 8-N2SL16-1(SDH-1).
Sink VC4 VC4-1 Generally, the value of sink VC4 is consistent with the value of
source VC4.
Sink Timeslot 1-15 The service between user A1 and user B1 uses timeslots 1-15.
