II.WHAT I NEED TO KNOW
Activity 1
A. Brain Exercises. Perform these operations using scientific notation. Write your
solutions in your notebook.
1. 4.35cm – 0.615cm + 33.7cm
= (0.0435 x 10² cm) – (0.00615 x 10² cm) + (0.337 x 10² cm)
= 0.38665 x 10² cm
= 3.8665 x 101 cm or 38.665 cm
Applying Significant Figures Rules – 38.7 cm

2. 14.08N x 0.52m
= 7.3216 joules
Applying Significant Figures Rules – 7.3 J

3. 50N ÷ (2.4m x 0.008m)

= 50N ÷ .0192 m²
= 2604.17 pascals
Applying Significant Figures Rules – 3000 Pa

B. Solve the following problem and write your answer in your notebook.
1. How heavy in kilogram is a 180lb football player?
180lb 1 kg 180 kg
x = = 81.82 kg
1 2.2lb 2.2
Applying Significant Figures Rules – 82 kg

2. How many mL are in 0.037 quartz?

0.037 quartz 946.353 mL
x = 35.015 mL
1 1 quartz
Applying Significant Figures Rules – 35 mL

PHYSICS
Mrs. Joan Hubahib
1.How many significant figures did you use in reporting your measurements?4significant figures
2.Are the results of each measurement (length, width or thickness) close to each other? Yes
3.Were the measurements accurate or precise? Precise

Measurements Actual Value Results

Length 15.93 cm Accurate, Precise
Width 10.43 cm Accurate, Precise
Thickness 4.332 cm Accurate, Precise

1. Are the results of each measurement (length, width, or thickness) close to the true value?
Yes

2. Were the measurements accurate or precise?

The measurements were accurate and precise.

ACTIVITY 1: LET’S THROW IT

Initial Data: 2.8 seconds
Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Trial 4 Trial 5
1.73 seconds 3.5 seconds 4.2 seconds 1.9 seconds 4.5 seconds
Guide Questions:
1. What can you observe on the data you’ve gathered?
All the data that I gathered are not close to the initial data and not consistent.

2. Why do you think the data is not consistent?

I think the data is not consistent because the amount of force I used to throw the ball is
not consistent. It’s extremely hard to exert the same amount of force in 5 Trials.

III.WHAT I HAVE LEARNED EVALUATION/POST TEST

A. Directions: Read the statements and write the numbers in scientific notation on the
space provided before each item. Write your answers in your notebook.
1. The population of the world is about 7,117,000,000. 7.117 x 109

2. The distance from Earth to the Sun is about 92,960,000 miles. 9.296 x 107

3. The human body contains approximately 60,000,000,000,000 or more cells. 6 x 1013

5. The length of the shortest wavelength of visible light (violet) is 0.0000004 meters. 4 x 10−7

B. Convert the following measurements. Write your solutions in your notebook.

586 cm 1m 586 m
1. 586 cm = x = = 5.86 m
1 100 cm 100
4.28 m 100 cm 10 mm
2. 4.28 m = x x = 4280 mm
1 1m 1 cm

(2) The weighing scale starts from 1kg instead (2) Time taken for running a 100m course 5
of 0 kg times.
