produce creative artifacts and make meaningful
learning experiences for themselves and others.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? Students will understand the basic needs of
a plant and how they grow by creating a podcast and creating a story on how a plant is created.

Selected Instructional Software Tool:

Anchor
Description of Software: Anchor is a podcast software that connects to the streaming platform Spotify.
It allows you to put audio and music into an episode and create anything you want. As soon as you
are done you can publish it to Spotify for everyone to listen.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
As stated in my podcast students at home will read about the life of a plant. When they get to class
the next day, they should be knowledgeable on the topic. When they first get to class, we will do a
fun activity of planting our own plants. After their plants have been planted, they will then name
their plants and create a story. This story will be all about the life of a plant. It will also include the

basic needs of a plant on how they continue to stay alive and grow. Once they create a story and
have a script, they will record a podcast on Anchor telling their story. They will then post it to Spotify
and all the students can listen to their classmates’ different stories. After they have listened to each
other’s stories they can give feedback on their favorite parts of the different stories.
Managing student learning:
Students will start out as passive learners because they are observing the information of a plant at home.
When they get to school the next day, they become active learners because they are using the knowledge
they have about a plant to create a story explain all of the information they have learned. To make sure
students are on task they cannot start recording their podcast until I have read their scripts. Doing this allows
the students to want to work towards something and by showing me a script I can see that they understand
the topic before they finalize it by recording their podcast. As an assessment at the end I can grab each
student and have me walk through the steps on anchor on how they uploaded their podcast.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
This lesson represents multiple means of engagement and multiple means of action and expression.
The students are given the opportunity to name their plant and come up with any kind of story they
want revolving around the plant and when they have created a script, they get to record their own
story as a podcast. All students can benefit from using this technology tool because it is simple to
use, understand, and there is a transcript available for kids who might need it. By using this tool,
they can improve their learning and also have the chance to develop a character and a plot.
Reflection: I think this lesson will impact students learning because they got to learn about a plant
and then plant their very own plant and over the next few weeks watch it grow. They also get to
then name their plants and create a story all about their life. I think planting the plants would be the
thing I look forward to the most because it is something different and fun for them.
