The Influence of Music.

Doctors say the beating of our hearts is caused by arteries as they expand and fill with blood, I,
however, decide to believe that the truth they hide from us is that music is indeed life, and that
is the reason our hearts have beats. You may think it is an exaggeration, but I am speaking from
my heart when I say this. There have been moments in my life where music has been my
escape and my safe place, and I have realized that I am not the only one this happens to. Seeing
the impact music has on myself and other people, I cannot help but ask myself, why is it we are
continually giving music such an essential place in our lives and why do we let it influence the
way we feel?

I have come to understand that music is a synonym for vulnerability. When a person writes a
song lyric, they are giving the world a piece of their heart they wrote in the moment of
sensibility, exhilaration, desperation, or joy. In other words, they are allowing society an insight
into their souls. That is why sometimes we can't help but connect with the words they share,
words that hold emotion in every letter and space in sync with melodies that make you feel
exposed in a way that makes us feel identified. Psychology explains that a person does not
connect with another in a moment of cheer, but rather when they both share an instant of
intimacy. This is similar to what happens when we listen to music, even though it is not a
private conversation, we feel like there is someone out there in the world who is fighting battles
similar to ours, and that produces in us a sense of peacefulness, reminding us that we are not
alone.

The love we have for music has been intensifying with the passing of years, but it is probably
not new. From the drumbeats of our ancestors to today’s infinite amount of streaming services,
music has always been part of the human experience. Nevertheless, music does not only have
to offer people sentimental value. Scientific research shows that pairing music with rhythm,
tone, and pitch can help us to enhance learning. Music is a tool that tends to help us pay
attention and, also leading to more efficient tasks, make tedious functions like memorization
easier and less dreading.

Above all, music works wonders in beautiful and mysterious ways. It has the power to bring
people into our world together which is already hard enough with all the dispute going on in
the daily. Whether the same taste in music starts of the conversation to a lifelong of friendship,
or the willingness to try something new invades us in a rush of adrenaline, or even long ear
shattering karaoke with strangers or loved ones, music just makes people feel alive. That is the
reason we sometimes feel like we are in a music video when we connect our headphones to
our MP3 players, wishing our lives had a soundtrack.

Some love music more than others, there are some of us dreamers that need music
everywhere all the time, and there are others, who somehow, can live relatively fine without it.
No matter which side you stand on, there is something no one will ever be allowed to deny.
Music speaks when words fail. This is why, when it is your mom’s birthday you want to dedicate
her a song, or the reason you wrote your boyfriend those cheesy, non-rhyming song lyrics with
a sweet melody. No matter what or where, music has been gifted to us, think of it as a
temporary escape. Split seconds of smiles, secret getaways for tears, and rendezvous as the
role of mother of love she plays. Whatever music means for you, however, it makes you feel,
welcomes to the world of another lover of music, sweet to meet you.
