FINAL PROJECT 2

Position Paper

Life does not stop for anybody. Animals, plants, and humans are evolving before our

eyes, so why can’t technology? Technology came to be around two million years ago. Simple,

mundane objects were created and classified as technology. However, new technology can be

asked to take a step forward, but it will always take ten. Numerous people with an exponential

amount of knowledge about technology have manipulated it in ways that it can perform better

than anybody can imagine.

Technology need to stay integrated within the Clark County School District curriculum.

With every decade, sometimes even every year, new technology is released to the public. It is

constantly evolving and getting better through updates and newer generations. According to

Mark Muro, nearly 56% of jobs require low amount of digital skills, nearly 40% require a

medium amount of digital skills, and 5% require high amount of digital skills (Muro, 2022).

According to Gierdowski, 90% of university students stated that laptops/computers are

“extremely important” in completing their coursework. 85% of community college students

believe the same statement (Gierdowski, 2019). With many of these statistics showing over 50%

of technology importance, why wouldn’t CCSD keep the integration of technology skills in the

curriculum.

K-12 is the setting foundation of preparing students for their future lives. It is where

students go through classes and discover what career they would like to pursue. School teaches

them other skills like patience, sharing, communication, and so much more. Adding technology

is just another skill that can create the best students possible. Despite the skills and opportunities

that technology presents, there is also an infinite amount of educational resources on the Internet.

Something simple as a reading game can not only help the student practice reading, but practice
FINAL PROJECT 3

basic technology skills as well. Technology must stay in the CCSD curriculum because not only

will it develop the best students possible, but it will allow the children to be anything they want

to be and more.
FINAL PROJECT 4

Identification of Standards

State of Nevada Standards

According to the Nevada Board of Education, there are seven core focus areas for the

integration of technology. Those seven areas include: empowered learner, digital citizen,

knowledge constructor, innovative designer, computational thinker, creative communicator, and

global collaborator. By kindergarten, students must have touched on the focus areas of

empowered learner, digital citizen, innovative designer, and computational thinker. Empowered

Learner focuses on the ability to take a role in demonstrating competency in learning goals.

Digital Citizen focuses on the ability to recognize the rights and responsibilities in the

interconnected digital world while displaying safe and legal actions. Innovative Designer focuses

on the ability to use various technology resources to solve imaginative solutions. Computational

Thinker focuses on the ability to employ strategies and solving problems that uses technological

methods to test solutions. By first grade, the students are required to hit all seven core areas.

National Standards

The ISTE National Standards contain the same seven areas of focus. However, it is

noticeable that in kindergarten, Creative Communicator, Global Collaborator, and Knowledge

Constructor are said to have no standards at the national level. National indicators are broken

down to the specifics. For example, Empowered Learner contains four sub levels for the

standard. It is labeled as 1.1.a, 1.1.b, and so forth. Empowered Learner is the ability to use

leverage of technology to demonstrating competency in learning goals. Standard 1.1.b states that

“Students build networks and customize their learning environments in ways that support the

learning process”. The Nevada and National standards are both similar in various ways, but the

National standards are broken down into specific details

FINAL PROJECT 5

Lesson Plan Standards

In my lesson plan, I will be touching on various ISTE Standards. However, the main

standard I will be addressing is Standard 7: Global Collaborator. Based off the specifics of the

National Standards, I will be focusing on Standard 1.7.a. In this standard, it states that “ students

use digital tools to connect with learners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, engaging

with them in ways that broaden mutual understanding and learning”.

Script

Hi Hina! I did a lot of research about what I think you would like here in Las Vegas. I

know you like taking pictures and I noticed your social media has many cool pictures of nature

and the food you liked. So, I made sure to include nice places to take a lot of pictures to show

your friends!

First, I’m going to show you a cafe that I think you will love! I was stuck between two,

Gabi Cafe and the Hello Kitty Cafe. I didn’t end up choosing Hello Kitty Cafe because it is in the

middle of the Strip, here in Vegas. I didn’t want you to feel crowded with how many people walk

by since it is an outdoor cafe, no inside seating. In my opinion though, the Strip has all crazy

kinds of people, especially at night. It is really hot here in Vegas, too. I bet Japan is also feeling a

bit hot too, I heard it gets really humid over there.

(Here I am going to showcase photos of Google Earth, but typically the student would be

screenrecording their presentation with their partner)

FINAL PROJECT 16

It is not that pretty on the outside, I know! I promise the inside is so much cuter though.

I’ll show you pictures of the inside now!

FINAL PROJECT 17

Their menu has a whole variety of options like crepe cakes, mini cakes, ice coffee,

blended drinks, and so much more! They also have sandwiches and salads if you are hungrier for

more than just dessert. I averaged a drink, sandwich, and a shared dessert would cost around

$22.50 for each person, but in total it would be $45 for the both of us!

The next place I think you would enjoy here in Vegas, would be the Red Rock Scenic

Loop. It is a place where you can drive and see our natural mountain range. It is the most

beautiful thing during the early mornings. They have a nice spot called Calico Basin that has an

option to go down and walk around for a bit. It shows all the best features of Calico without

having to do hard hiking. Calico Baisn is also free, so we can do a lot of exploring and taking

photos for a good price. They also have picnic tables where was can eat some snacks and take

breaks.

The last place I would like to take you is Pandora Jewelry. They have great quality charm

bracelets and rings to choose from. There are multiple locations across Vegas, but I chose the
FINAL PROJECT 18

Downtown Summerlin location because it isn’t crowded in the outdoor mall. I personally have

two of their rings as well as a charm bracelet and they have held up fantastically over the years.

Their items are a bit pricier. However, the average amount spent there for one person is $92.50.

For the both of us, it will be $185. Rings are definitely not that expensive, but charm bracelets

are.

I really hope you like my suggestions, I put a ton of thought into them!
