SUMMARY OF DUTY

2.1 Week One (22/03/2021 – 26/03/2021)

I reported to my supervisor, Pn. Suhana who is also a staff in the company
where I will conduct practical training at Jurukur Hikmah. I also briefed
myself to the Licensed Surveyor, En. Hj. Fakrul, the owner of the company. I
got task from Pn. Rodziatul to do Pre-Computation Plan related about
partition. I learn about the requirement for Pre-Computation with Pn.
Rodziatul before we started and while doing the task given.

2.2 Week Two (29/03/2021 – 02/04/2021)

I learnt how to use new software which is BricsCAD and how to use the
NDCDB data and Google Earth to apply in CAD software by Pn. Rodziatul. I
also learnt on how to calculate the shareholder of each landlord when doing
the partition. I also got the next task from Pn. Rodziatul which is to make a
detail plan. Then I also had a meeting with all the practical student and
Licensed Surveyor about the hydrography project in Langkawi.

2.3 Week Three (04/04/2021 – 09/04/2021)

All the practical students went to Langkawi to perform the survey work that
had been ask by JKR. We had been explained about the flow of work and the
equipment used while doing the work by the licensed surveyor. We also had
been explained on how the echo sounder collect and record the data. We
divided into three (3) groups of practical students, and we followed the
schedule of rotation so very one will know the process and will learnt them
well. En Shahrul teched us to find the elevation of water level by using GPS.
We also create a new base at the survey location to start the traverse. The
base is measured using Topcon GR5 and traversing was measured by using
total station that in-charge by En. Firdaus. A new control point and
Temporary Benchmark (TBM) were established at Gua Langsir in the
evening of the day. Then, we continue of levelling work. We went to Teluk
Ewa to do levelling work there. Due to the weather problem, we must stop the
survey and we took one hour at the night of the day to do Vertical Con trol
using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Static method. After that,
the coordinate that had received from base at Jetty Kilim to the Benchmark at
Teluk Ewa had to be compared with the data of levelling. We need to go back
to Penang after finished our job there and continue doing our job in the office.

11
2.4 Week Four (12/04/2021 – 16/04/2021)
I have been instructed to do a site survey for partition at Chenaam, Pulau
Pinang. We used Topcon Sino T300 to find the point area and if we cannot
detect the area, we used another method using total station due to the
obstacles to reach the receiver. Then I search foe the data needed for report
and continue my report and update my logbook.

2.5 Week Five (19/04/2021 – 23/04/2021)

I attended the meeting with the National Energy worker (TNB) by using
Cisco Webex platform. We also had a meeting with Sr. Hj. Fakrul to
discussed about the data obtained and how to process the data from the
project in Gua Langsir, Langkawi to understand them well and do th e report

first time, I was given the task to do details plan and the same time, I explored
all the commands available in brisCAD software.

2.7 Week Seven (03/05/2021 – 07/05/2021)

All practical students were given guidance by employer, Sr Hj. Fakhrul on
how to process the data that obtained during the project in Langkawi. During
my leisure time either in office or work from home, I have updated my
logbook so that I am not missing the activities or work that I have done
during the internship.

2.8 Week Eight (10/05/2021 – 12/05/2021)

12
On this week, I spent my time to do report and update the logbook as this
week is a holiday week in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

2.9 Week Nine (19/05/2021 – 2 1/05/2021)

I have searched for the company related information as required to be inserted

19
vi. Fieldwork

• Site Visit and Reconnaissance

Site reconnaissance was carrying out to planning our work. During

reconnaissance survey, boundary mark can be found as much as can that
in the good quality. So, wecan do a planning for starting datum.

• Instrument Calibration

Calibration can be defined as a systematic comparison of measurements

that are taken and will be compared back to the referenced data. It’s very
important to improve performance, process, and outcomes during doing
survey works. Instrument calibrations need to do for new instrument, when
a specified operating time has elapsed, before and after the measurements
and many more. The two types of calibration are daily check and
differential field test.

vii. Data processing

• Plan preparation for partition survey.

• Generate 16 ASCII

20
3.5 Quotation

Quotation is the cost regards the survey works from the beginning until the
last part which is produce final plan. It must calculate all the cost before the
survey is carrying out and need to give to the client. All the fees are f ixed and
follow the LJT. The quotation attached at Appendix A.

3.6 Preparation of Document

Documentation is one of important things during process of partition survey.

It is because to standardize the process to become systematic process which is
involved the clients. So, the documents needed must be included in this
process.

3.7 Data Acquisition

3.7.1 Pre-Computation Plan

Pre-computation is a plan of the layout of the lots. It will be the guidelines or
as a referenced to the surveyor during fieldwork. There is some important
information that has at that pre-computation.

Figures 3.4 : Pre-Computation Plan

22
3.7.2 Instrument Used for Cadastral Survey
Survey equipment was always an important asset to any licensed surveyor firm. the
equipment was always ensured to be calibrated for our observation will always in top
notch condition.

23
3.7.3 Calibration and Field check

i. Daily Check

Daily check should be carried out at the start of the everyday job. It can be
done by re- measuring the distance of the last surveyed line on the previous
day. If the error is greater than 10mm, the differential field test needs to be
carried out to determine the instruments are acceptable working order.

ii. EDM Baseline Calibration

The procedure to conduct an Electronic Digital Measurement (EDM) baseline

calibration is:

1. Set up EDM at pillar 1

2. Measure distance 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 until 1-10
3. Move EDM to pillar 2 and then measure distance 2-3, 2-4 until 2-10
4. Record the reading. Calculate the tolerance.

Figure 3.5 : Illustration of EDM Calibration

24
iii. EDM Baseline Test
An EDM baseline test should be performed to ensure the correct operation of a pair of
GPS receivers and data processing software that will be used for baseline measurement.

• The GPS instrumentation shall be tested on an EDM baseline that itself has
been calibrated to a local standard of distance using a special a high quality EDM
instrument.
• The test shall be used to study the precision of the receiver measurements (and
hence its correct operation),as well as validate the data processing software.

• EDM baseline test should be performed on a six-monthly basis or prior to any

large survey campaign being carried out.

• The test should be carried out at an established EDM baseline test site, by
occupying pillars with at least 90% sky visibility.
• The GPS receivers should be tested against the established EDM baseline lengths
(between pillars), varying from twenty (20) meters to about one (1) kilometer.
• Each GPS receiver is to be connected to its designated antenna (mounted on
the pillar) using the same antenna cable used during surveys.
• The test should be performed for a minimum of ten (10) minutes observation
sessions.

• The receivers shall track at least five (5) satellites during the test session with a
GDOP of less than six (6).

• Cut-off angle of fifteen degrees (15°) should be applied during the baseline
processing.

• The resulting difference in slope distance between the GPS measurement and
the standard must be less than ten (10) millimeters. If this tolerance is not met the
test should be repeated, and if the equipment fails again the instrument should be
returned to the GPS agent for repair.

25
3.7.4 Differential Field Test (DFT)

The differential field test should be carried out at the starting new survey job. It is
important to ascertain if the EDM is the acceptable working order. The differential f ield
test can be done in the traverse line which is on the first line or second lin e of the
traverse. The procedure for DFT is:

1. Set up the total station at STN A and the prism at STN B with the distance
140.532m. Observe and record the data into the field book.
2. Move the total station at STN C on the line between STN A and STN B.
3. Measure CA and CB.
4. Compare the distance AB with the resultant of CA and CB.
5. Calculate the tolerance of the observation to know the result.

27
3.7.5 Methodology and Fieldwork

i. Site visit / Reconnaissance

Site Visit is required before starting a job to determine the location and scope
of work provided. The purpose was carrying out to planning our work. During
reconnaissance survey, boundary mark can be found as much as can that in
the good quality. So, wecan do a planning for starting datum.

ii. Preparatory of Work

Provision of work which includes workers and third-party insurance to protect
themselves and their equipment while carrying out survey work for this project.
Additional information from the Jabatan Teknikal such as topographic data and digital
cadastral data (lot number, bearing, distances, benchmark level and coordinates) is
required.

iii. Horizontal Control Survey

A horizontal control point is defined as any survey point whose position has been
previously determined. It is very important to be used during survey work. It is because
to obtain and to make sure the data collected are accurate.

a. Datum

Datum serves as a starting point for surveying projects and help to put your work in a
large context. A datum, on the other hand, can be any reference used to measure an
object, such as planes, lines, or points. Geodetic datum is points that are used in
surveying. Horizontal and vertical geodetic datum is the two types of geodetic datum.
There are 3 types of datum that has been mentioned in Pekeliling Ketua Pengarah Ukur
dan Pemetaan (PKPUP) 6/2009 which is:

28
i) Cadastral References Mark (CRM)

ii) Two boundary marks together with solar observation

iii) Three boundary marks that in good position

In this work, we used three boundary marks that in good position as our datum to
start survey works.

b. Traverse
Traverse is one of the methods for data collection. It is a series along the lines or
network. It has two types which is closed traverse and open traverse. For closed
traverse, we have polygon and link. For this project, we used closed traverse and it is
polygon. During doing the traverse, we picked up any boundary marks for this lot and
certain for its adjacent lot.

Procedure of traversing:

1. Set up total station and prism on the selected Batu Konkrit Lama (BKL).
2. Start the traversing with known bearing and distance based on CP.
3. Booking the traverse data using booking form.
4. Calculate and apply c-correction using bearing misclosure formula.

29
Figure 3.8 : Traverse Diagram

30
c. Field book

Field book is the booking form during survey work which is standard to all LLS and
JUPEM. It is very important to write down all important data especially about data
collection. In this booking form, we wrote all data about traversing which is starting fro m
datum until closed bearing. So, we can calculate the m-correction and c-correction. The
field book for this survey work attached on Appendix B.

d. C-correction

The error can be eliminated by doing m-correction and c-correction. M-correction is the
correction of the orientation is applied in all traverse networks. It can be orientated either
in negative which is anti-clockwise or positive which is clockwise. It also depends on the
calculation of proving the true azimuth by solar observation. However, c -correction is
applied to all closed traverse either polygon or link traverse. In this project, we just apply
c-correction by using this formula:

C-correction: = (Bearing misclosure) / Number of stations

Calculation of c-correction:
Garisan 2-1 dibaca 320°29‟08”
Sepatut dibaca 320°29‟08”
Tikaian ialah 0°00‟00” dlm 9 stn iaitu 2,3,5,6,7,8,11,12,2
Pembetulan ialah +0°00‟00” satu stn

According to CSR 2002, tolerance for traverse correction must be not exceeding
1‟15” for the first-class survey of bearing misclosure. In this booking of
traverse, the c- correction is +0” which is acceptable.

31
3.8 Data Processing
Data processing is process of carrying out of operations on data, especially by computer
to retrieve, transform or classify information. After all the fieldwork was done, all the
data will be transferred then, it will be processed in the CAD software. The flow of data
processing is as follow:

Compute linear Identify baseline

Do an adjustment misclosure using and third mark using
for traverse Bowditch calculation of
adjustment interior angle

Compute offset of
Produce final CP
re-fixation

32
3.8.1 List of Software
Survey equipment such as software is an important asset of a Licensed
Surveyor firm. The software is used to process the data that had been recorded
or received. Without the software that the surveyors used now, their survey
work may had been complete in a long period or cannot be completed at all.
Below are the softwares used for this project:

34
3.8.3 Bowditch Adjustment

Bowditch adjustment is one of the strategies essentially utilized in adjusting the linear
misclosure of the traverse network. This strategy changes the latitudes and departures of
the traverse network about their lengths. The error is circulated by adjusting the linear
misclosure.

3.8.4 Linear Misclosure

It tends to be finished by computing its linear misclosure which is addressing the
mistake that showed up after finishing a shut traverse. The blunder is inferred utilizing
the square base of contrast scope force of two and the distinction flight force of two. By
utilizing the recipe of linear misclosure to get its exactness, we can know the classes of
the traverse. Since we utilized total station, we ought to get top of the line because of the
total station's exactness until 1mm. The classes of the traverse are divided into three
categories which are:

i) First class: not less than 1:8000

ii) Second class: not less than 1:4000

iii) Third class: less than 1:4000

35
Calculation of Linear Misclosure:

(∆𝑙𝑎𝑡i𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒) ² + (∆𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒) ²
𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒 𝐷i𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒

√(∆𝑙𝑎𝑡i𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒) ² + (∆𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒) ²

=
766.146

= 1 / 0.00056

= 1365478

= 1: 1365478

The accuracy of linear misclosure must not be less than 1:8000 for the first class. Based
on the calculation using the Bowditch method for the traverse, the linear misclosure is 1:
1365478 which are acceptable.

36
3.8.5 Baseline Calculation

A baseline is a connection line between two boundary marks that have been proven to
be in their original position using a calculation based on the traverse.

CHAPTER 4

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

4.1 Conclusion of Project

From this project, we reason that exploration and perception accomplish its goal
required effectively. The goal to get a different title for each parcel which is parcel 1
and parcel 2. The present cadastral survey techniques should be improved to make
surveying faster and less expensive to make it moderate to the average person and cause
it to offer more to the public economy. In the overall setting of cadastral surveying,
precision is a significant issue on the grounds that the level of exactness and congruity
of principles decide the kind of gear to be utilized and the expense to be caused. This
survey work interaction can be done well in light of the fact that with a high
responsibility and great correspondence from different gatherings like customers, the
arranging that has been made prior to entering the site region and the instruments
utilized are in acceptable condition during this survey work.

4.2 Overall General Suggestion.

As an idea, I trust that the pragmatic time this semester can be reached out to permit
understudies to acquire insight and study geomatics-related issue. The time given is just
for about four months which is for me it isn't sufficient, in regard to the COVID-19
circumstance. Thus, it is smarter to stretch out the period to more weeks. Other than
that, the staff at the Jurukur Hikmah should peruse a great deal of documents so the
understudy has more practice and can do the actual work.
