WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR ABS PIPE INSTALLATION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This statement is to provide guidance for the installation of ABS Cold


Water Pipe.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

This procedure applies to project site, which requires ABS Cold Water
Pipe installation work, which is carried out by the HJCSB.

4.0 PURPOSE

To ensure that the ABS Pipe installation is comply to project specifications


and standard.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY

Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Site Supervisor and QA/QC Engineer.

7.0 HANDLING AND STORAGE

When materials arrive to site, it will be stored in a clean and dry area. The
bulk of the pipes & fittings will be stored at the Main Plumbing store. For ease
of working smaller amounts will be stored at the place of installation.

8.0 WORK METHODLOGY

8.1 Installation of ABS Cold Water Pipe procedure. ( Vertical)

8.1.1 After casting slab knockout the formwork opening.

8.1.2 Then plumb a line from highest floor till the lowest floor
where the pipe is to be installed. Install the wall bracket to
support pipe

8.1.3 Install ABS dropper bracketing it to the wall. Apply ABS


Solvent Cement on the pipe.

8.1.4 Joint the both pipes together and hold in position up to 10


seconds.

8.1.5 Cut a 10mm plywood 400mm square into 2 halves with a


pipe radius cut out on one side. Place the plywood around
installed pipe and nail them together and prop with wooden
batten. Cast back the opening around the pipe with
concrete.

8.2 Installation of ABS Cold Water Pipe procedure. ( Horizontal )

8.2.1 Mark starting and ending point of horizontal pipe to be


installed. Measure the pipe length to determine the pipe
routing and position.

8.2.2 Use drill machine drill the start and end points marked.
Insert 10mm drop-in anchor into drilled points.

8.2.3 Screw in the galvanized threaded rod into drop-in anchor.


Fasten the stud rod to intermediate drop-in anchor.

8.2.4 Install type ‘A’ hanger with the threaded stud with nut and
washers. When the hangers are ready then slot the pipe
through the hangers.

8.2.5 After slot in the pipes, apply ABS Solvent cement to join the
both pipes and fittings together. Complete the jointing check
the pipe joint is in correct position.

8.2.6 If the piping is require enclosed in the brick wall, that piping
must have pressure test before it plaster back with cement
mortar. After it complete pressure test the final connection
to all the sanitary wares fixtures will carry out the functional
test during commissioning.

8.3 Joint System of ABS Cold Water Pipe

8.3.1 Cut the pipe clean and square. Remove internal external burr
and clean out swart.

8.3.2 Abrade the end of the pipe over the length equal to the
socket depth. Clean the abraded surfaces with a clean rag.

8.3.3 Apply BBB solvent cement to the abraded surfaces of the


pipe and fittings. Push pipe fully home into the fittings. Do
not twist. Hold the pipe and fittings together for up to 1
minute.

8.3.4 Wipe off excess solvent cement from the joint.

8.4 Site Activities Preparation

8.4.1 Material incoming to site, check type and quantity of ABS


Cold Water Pipe against delivery order.

8.4.2 Then inspect materials according to specification.

9.0 INSPECTION AND TESTING

All service shall be tested/inspected for:-

i) Submission Checklist
ii) ABS Cold Water Pipe installation work checklist

During work progress and final work done shall carried out inspection and
testing to ensure conformance of installation work.

The project work shall follow the work methodology. Our site representative
will carried out the procedure, a report for inspection request form will be
forwarded 24 hours before an inspection to be carried out by consultant’s
representative. The inspection request form shall be enclosed with the
checklist, drawing and submission checklist.

10.0 TESTING PROCEDURE FOR ABS PIPE

10.1 ABS Pipe to be check visually before pressure test to be conducted.

10.2 Testing inspection will be carried out to ensure no leaking and all
Connection is well joint.

10.3 Plug all the water outlet point and fill up water.

10.4 Using hand pump to increase the pressure in the test pipe at least 1.5
times the working pressure or 7.0 bars, whichever is higher.

10.5 The pressure test will be held for 24 hours.

10.6 If pressure cannot be sustained, check the pipe for leakage and rectify.

10.7 Repeat step ( 10.3 ) to ( 10.5 ) until result is achieved.

11.0 SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

i) All work shall be carried out in accordance to the safety standard


required by the relevant authorities.

ii) P.P.E shall be worn at all time to avoid any unwanted incidence.

iii) Proper attire, safety shoes and helmet shall be provided.

iv) All workers shall adhere to safety HIRADC Form at all time.

v) When work is completed, housekeeping will be required to keep the


work area clean and tidy. This to ensure the place is safe.

12.0 QA/QC ASPECTS

12.1 General

The purpose of the quality control is to provide a proper guideline for


the pipe installation such that the following targets will be attained:-

 Allow at least 24 hours for the ABS solvent cement to cure


before commencing pressure testing.

 Pipelines will be tested to a max pressure of 7 bars.

 To follow work methodology to ensure the quality of


construction.
