Sam is twelve years old, when he gets up, he listens to music on his Mp3 player. He uses headphones. He has
breakfast then he goes to school on the bus. On the bus, he talks to his friends on his mobile phone.
He doesn’t use a calculator at school, but he sometimes uses a tablet in English lessons. At half past three he goes
home he does her homework in a pen drive. At six o´clock, as Sam has dinner. After dinner sometimes reads a
book. But he often watches TV with his sister, or he plays games on his video games console.

From the garage to the Googleplex

The Google story begins in 1995 at Stanford University. Larry Page was considering to study at Stanford
university and Sergey Brin, a student there, was assigned to show him around.
At the beginning, they disagreed about nearly everything during that first meeting, but by the following year
they established a partnership. Working from their dorm rooms, they built a search engine that used links to
determine the importance of individual pages on the World Wide Web. They called this search engine Backrub.
Soon after, Backrub was renamed Google. The name was a play on the mathematical expression for the
number 1 followed by 100 zeros and this name reflected Larry and Sergey's mission “to organize the world’s
information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Over the next few years, Google caught the attention of not only the academic community, but
Silicon Valley investors as well. In August 1998, Sun micro systems co-founder, Andy Bechtolsheim
wrote Larry and Sergey a check for $100,000, and Google Inc. was officially born. With this
investment, the newly incorporated team made the upgrade from the dorms to their first office.
The persistent search for better answers continues to be at the core of everything we do. Today, Google
makes hundreds of products used by billions of people across the globe, from YouTube and Android to Gmail
and, of course, Google Search. Although we’ve ditched the Lego servers and added just a few more company
dogs, our passion for building technology for everyone has stayed with us — from the dorm room to the garage,
and until today.

Facebook is the most popular social networking website and the second most popular website on the
internet, after Google. It has over 750 million members and every month more than 137 million people log on. It
was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, a college student at Harvard University in the USA. At first you could
only join Facebook is you went to an American university, later it became a global website and people of all ages,
all over the world, could join. If you want to join Facebook, first you have to create a profile. Then users can post
an online status, upload photos and videos, chat to friends, play games, create and join groups and events,
comment on other people’s activity and much more. However, it is not the only social networking website that is
available; It competes with Myspace, Bebo and most recently Google+ which all offer different features to users,
such as uploading music and video chat.
