COAL HANDLING PLANT
• To unload Coal from barges at Jetty
• To eliminate foreign particles like metals
• Stacking of coal
• To feed coal to bunker of boiler.
• Boiler is designed based on coal GCV(Gross Calorific Value)
• The higher the GCV the lower will be pollutants and height of the
boiler will be less for a certain output power.

Water System
• Water Source: Passur River
• Water is required for Water-Steam circulation in main power plant, cooling of
condenser and equipment, service water, potable water, fire-water etc.
• Water used for cooling the condenser is called Circulating/Cooling water(CW).
• Water used for cooling various equipment of TG and SG is called Equipment
Cooling Water(ECW) (i.e, Lub oil of TG, Compressor, Hydrogen, Seal Oil etc.)
• To cool ECW, we use Auxiliary Cooling Water(ACW).
• To cool CW and ACW we use IDCT.
• Water of Passur River is SALINE. Water has dissolved salt, silica, mud, cations,
anions etc.
• For Water-steam cycle and ECW we need DM water, for CW/ACW we need
clarified/ pretreated water. For service/potable, fire-water etc. we need
desalinated water.

What is Coal Ash ?
ESP
Furnace
(1300 - 1500°C)
• It is produced from
burning of coal in the
boiler
Electrostatic
Economizer Precipitator • Primarily there are two
type of ash
Bottom Ash, a coarse,
Duct
hopper
angular ash particle that is
Pulverized too large to be carried
Stage A: 80 %
up into the smoke stacks
Stage C: 3 %
Stage B: 17 %
Coal
so it forms in the bottom
of the coal furnace.
Bottom Ash Eco Ash Duct Hopper Fly ash Fly Ash, a very fine,
Ash powdery material
Ash 20 % 80 % composed mostly of silica
Particle made from the burning of
Fineness finely ground coal in a
boiler.
