B. Review/ Recall

Before we proceed to our next topic

about sandwiches, let us have a recall
about the previous topic which is about
the equipment for sandwich making.

● What are the different tools, - There are 9 pieces of equipment

utensils, and equipment needed we can use to prepare
in making sandwiches? sandwiches. Here are as follows:
1. GRILLS / GRIDDLES. These are flat
heated surfaces where food is
directly cooked.
2. OVENS. These are equipment
which are enclosed in which food is
heated by hot air or infrared
radiation.
3. MICROWAVE OVENS. Special
tubes generate microwave radiation,
which creates heat inside the food.
4. BREAD TOASTER. The toaster is
typically a small electric kitchen
appliance designed to toast multiple
types of bread products.
5. SALAMANDERS. Small broiler, use
primarily for browning or glazing the
tops of sandwiches.

the class discussion really manifests
mastery.

letters to students. Students will be
guessing the right word, that will serve
as their game of the day)

I hope you enjoyed our game!

Now, let’s proceed with the next topic - Yes, Ma’am!
which is about Ingredients Used For
Sandwiches.

Some seem to love sandwiches so

much, but are you familiar with the
ingredients used to prepare a special,
tasty, yet simple sandwich?

(Shows pictures/chart to the students)

This picture shows one of the most

important ingredients for our sandwich.
Can someone please tell me what is
this? (Student 1 raises his hand)

Student 1: One of the most important

ingredients in our sandwich is the bread.

That is correct! Good job!

Breads – good quality breads provide

variety, texture, taste, bulk, nutrients and
eye appeal to sandwiches. Fresh bread
is easier to slice or cut if it has been
chilled.

Let us move to the next one, what do (Student 2 raises his hand)
you think is this?
Student 2: Sandwich is not a sandwich
without meat, Ma’am.

Good answer, ___ ! When someone says

meat, does it mean it has to be one kind Student 3: No ma’am, I don’t think so. It
of meat in particular? could be in the form of pork, sausage, beef,
ham, etc. Whatever is the preferred meat of
the one who is preparing, or the one who it
is prepared for.

Student 4: Another ingredient to consider is

Very well said, ___ ! Can you give me POULTRY, ma’am.
another ingredient?

Student 5: We can also consider fish and

shellfish as an ingredient.
Alright, very good. What else?
Student 6: I think it is because they are
highly perishable, and we should store
That is right, however, fish and shellfish them properly to maintain their quality.
should be kept chilled. Does anyone
have an idea why?

Student 7: We can use cheese and spread,

ma’am. I love it when my mom prepares my
sandwich using those.
Excellent answer! That is right. Can you
please give us other ingredients that we
can use?
I definitely agree! Cheese and spread act
as binder, moistener of other
ingredients. However, it should be
refrigerated and remain covered until
ready to serve to avoid drying out.

We can also use condiments like olive

oil, relishes , chutneys to give a lift to a
sandwich, some of them are high in acid
so don’t combine them with strong
flavored condiments.
Student 8: We can add some vegetables
What else can we add? ma’am. I love lettuce to go with my favorite
sandwich.

Yes, I also love lettuce! Lettuce,

tomatoes and onions are indispensable
in sandwich making, it adds texture,
flavor and color to the sandwich. We
should take note that vegetables should
be crisped and proportion to the size of
the sandwich.

Lastly, we can also add fresh fruit, or

dried, jelly, jam, peanut butter, eggs and
nuts and add flavor, color, nutrients and
texture to sandwich production. It can
also make our sandwich more special.

D. Generalization
