LESSON PLAN IN CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE ARTS FROM THE REGIONS


Grade 12 - Pascal

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. Explain how tradition becomes contemporary and vice versa through the practices of
artist awardees of Manlilikha ng Bayan Award; and
b. Know what GAMABA Award is and who the artist awardees are.

II. Content
 Subject Matter: The Contemporary in Traditional Art: Gawad sa Manlilikha ng bayan
(GAMABA)

Roberto Paulino; Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez; Louise Marcelino, pp 57-63
 Materials: laptop, projector

III. Procedure
1. Preliminary Activities
*Opening Prayer
*Checking of Attendance
*Classroom Management
*Recall the lesson.
Who are the National Artists of the Philippines? Identify their works and
contributions to Philippine Art and culture.
2. Motivation
Let the students formulate questions/ write observations about the images or
videos that they have seen.

3. Activity
Group Activity. Select a form in which any of the Manlilikha ng Bayan practice.
Give specific examples of how that form has undergone appropriation or transformation –
both internally or by the community itself, and externally by outside forces, or both – to
create new meanings and appeal to different publics. For example:

4. Discussion
Guide Questions:
a. What is the GAMABA?
b. Who are the GAMABA Awardees?
c. What are their expertise?
d. What are the effects of GAMABA in the communities?
e. What are the appropriations or transformations of each forms contributed by
the GAMABA Awardees?
5. Generalization
What is the significance of the GAMABA? How does tradition becomes
contemporary and contemporary traditional through the practices of artist awardees of
GAMABA.
6. Application
Make a time line of manlilikha ng bayan from 1993 up to 2012 in a creative way.
7. Values Integration
They are professionally and technically competent by global standards, and have a
positive attitude towards career growth.

IV. Evaluation
Quiz. In a ½ sheet of paper, write your own understanding about the topic and the
significant of GAMABA award. Give one GAMABA Awardee and its expertise.
Why do we need to recognize their outstanding work?

V. Assignment
Name one traditional art form in your community. Create a poster to promote it. It
can be on a cartolina.
