LESSON PLAN IN CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE ARTS FROM THE REGIONS

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. identify the kinds of arts developed during the American Colonial Period;
b. build a vocabulary of major and basic terms in Philippine art history during the
American Colonial period; and
c. differentiate the art forms during the Spanish colonization and American colonization
period.

II. Content
 Subject Matter: A Brief History of Philippine Art History
Subtopic: American Colonial Period
 References: Contemporary Philippine Arts From the Regions : Flaudette May Datuin;
Roberto Paulino; Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez; Louise Marcelino, pp 29-34
 Materials: Visual aids, cut-out strips

III. Procedure
1. Preliminary Activities
*Opening Prayer
*Checking of Attendance
*Classroom Management
*Recall the lesson.
The teacher will show cut-out strips of terms about the previous topic (Spanish
Colonial Period). The students will determine and describe each word. They will be
encouraged to tell something they’ve learned about the terms.
2. Motivation
Jumbled letters!
Students will have to arrange the following words. It will reveal the topic for today.
1. IHSOTYR
2. TAR
3. MERIANCA
4. TIONCOLONIAZ
5. PHLIIPPNESI
3. Activity
Group Activity. The teacher will divide the students into two (2) groups. Each
group will collect ideas from its members about the artworks in the Philippine history
influenced by the American colonizers. They will be answering questions provided by the
teacher.

4. Discussion
Guide Questions:
a. What kind of arts were brought by the American colonizers to the Philippines?
b. What was the most important evidence of the presence of each art during the
American colonization in the Philippines?
c. What are the contributions of each art in the Philippine history during the
American Colonization?
d. What were the changes influenced by the American colonization? How are
they different from the religious forms of the Spanish colonial period?
e. Why is it important that Filipinos have to preserve the different art
contributions influenced by American colonizers?
5. Generalization
What were the kind of arts contributed by the Americans in the Philippine
history? How are we going to value the different artworks brought by American
colonizers? What are the differences of Spanish and American influence in terms of art in
the Philippine History.
6. Application
The teacher will call students to provide their insights on the relevance of
American
influence on the kinds of art today. Applying what they’ve learned, they’ll provide
activities and actions to further nurture and cultivate the arts that we’ve establish from the
American influence.
7. Values Integration
Students must learn how to give importance to the artworks contributed to the
Philippine history during the American Colonization period. They must preserve each
artworks present nowadays.

IV. Evaluation
In a sheet of paper, students will be asked to draw artworks in the Philippine History
during the American Colonial period and provide description of each.

V. Assignment
Students will have to research and discover what artworks influenced by Americans
are still present in the Philippine Art History nowadays.
