Human beings have encountered many

changes over the last century especially

in their relationships and social
structures. Of these changes, one can
say that globalization is a very important
change, if not, the “most important” (Bauman,
2003)
What is
Globalization ?
Globalization is a free
global market .
What is globalization according to
Al Rhodan?

Al-Rhodan (2006) globalization is a conceptualization of the

international political economy which suggests and believes
essentially that all economic activity, whether local, regional or
national, must be conducted within a perspective and attitude
that constantly is global and worldwide ...
Some Scholars who tried
to defined globalization.
Martin Khor defined globalization,
“Globalization is what we in the Third World
have for several centuries called
colonization.
According to WHO,
It is generally understood to include two inter-
related elements: the opening of international
borders to increasingly fast flows of goods,
services, finance, people and ideas; and the
changes in institutions and policies at national
and international levels that facilitate or
promote such flows.”
The Task Of Defining
Globalization
The definition can be classified as
1. Broad
2. Narrow
Broad and inclusive globalization describes the opportunity
by which the people or factors. behind a certain
development in a country benefit as well.

A narrow definition of globalization describes only trends in

cross-border trade activities. According to this definition,
globalization is not a new phenomenon, and by some
measures the world is actually less “globalized” now than it
was at the end of the nineteenth century into the beginning
of the twentieth century
Methaphors of Globalization
Globalization can be analyzed through
conceptual metaphors such as solids,
liquids, gases, flows, structures, heavy,
light, and weightless. Prevented free
movement of people, information, and
objects in that era.
1.Homogeneity – refers to the
increasing sameness in the world as :
cultural inputs , economic factors , and
political orientations
Cultural inputs
Cultural Imperialism – this means
a given culture influences other
cultures.
Examples: Christianity ,
Americanization
Economic Factors
There is a spread of
neoliberism , capitalism , and
the market economy.
What is heterogeneity in globalization?
meaning “race” or “type, class.” In the globalization
debate the term “heterogeneity” is generally used to
describe a quality of cultural diversity, mostly as
antidote of the cultural convergence-thesis, which
proposes an increasing homogenization of culture
through globalization.
ACTIVTY # 2
Sharing and analysis.
Students are asked to listen to top 3 music of their choice that they
love listening to and afterwards, they would be asked to share to
the class who is the artist, his/her nationality, what gadgets they
use and from where were the gadgets made, how did they access
those music and how they could connect those songs to different
aspects of daily life such as politics, music, sports, film, celebrity,
and disaster
