After I heard all the course contents of Psychological Foundation of

Education Concept Teaching. I can say, I learned the difference between

teaching performance in a profession and vocation.

“Teaching is not a lucrative position; it cannot guarantee financial

security. It even means investing your personal time, energy and resources.

Sometimes it means disappointments, heartaches and pains. But touching the

heart of people and opening the minds of children can give you joy and

contentment which money could not buy. These are the moment I teach for.

These are the moments I live for.” Said by Dr. Josette T. Biyo
As a teacher, who performed teaching is a vocation, we must have a

strong feeling or calling for a service. We dedicate ourselves not just for work

but also to serve other people, the young learners. We should always

remember, that the future of our learners is in our kind hearted hand. We will

show love and concern to our students, clarity and patience, also you must self-

less and must have a personal commitment. We should continue to produce

future professionals. We are teachers who help the young learners to reach

their goals in life. So as a teacher our mission is to touch hearts and mind while

leading children to be a better individual who have strong desire to contribute

to the betterment of the society and serve the country and become globally

competitive.

Some other teachers regard teaching is a just a job. Because the end

goal of a profession is service and as we have heard many times, “we cannot

give what we do not have”. Teaching is a noble profession, our service to the

public as a professional turns out to be dedicated when out moral, ethical and

religious values serve as out bedrock foundation. If you take teaching as your

profession, this means that you must be willing to go through a long period of

preparation and a continuing professional development.

According to Alice Von Hildebrand, “There are very few real teachers,

teaching is not a job, it is a vocation. To be a great one many qualities must be

combined: love of truth, knowledge, reverence, loving concern for one’s

students, clarity and patience.” So, I was started asking myself am I teaching

as a profession or a vocation? All I know right now, the world entrusted me as

a teacher. I will ensure the happiness of my students to achieve their dreams. I

will share my knowledge and skills of what they needed the most, I will make

sure that I had contributed in their lives when they became a successful

professional in the near future.

“A Teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”
