Day 3
I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
a. find the volume of a rectangular prism;
b. measure the length, width, and height of a rectangular prism using centimeter ruler and compute for the
volume; and
c. appreciate the importance of being fit and healthy.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the concept of time, perimeter, area, and volume.
B. Performance The learner is able to apply the concept of time, perimeter, area, and volume to mathematical problems and real-life
Standards situations.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction I. Study the solid figures. Derive the formula of rectangular prism by using the relationship of the number of the rows,
columns, and layers.
1.
2.
Length (l) = 4 units
Width (w) = 4 units
Height (h) = 4 units
Volume = __ x __ x ___
= 4 units x 4 units x 4 units
= __ cu. units

Situation 1
Bukandala Elementary School has aquaponics system inside the Organikong Gulayan sa Paaralan. The fish tank with
tilapia measures 4 m long, 3 m wide and 1 m high. Find the volume of the fish tank.
What are the vegetables do you see in the Organikong Gulayan sa Paaralan?
Do you eat fruits and vegetables? Why?
Is it important for us to be fit and healthy? Why?
What is inside the Organikong Gulayan sa Paaralan?
What is inside the fish tank?
What is the length of the fish tank? width? height?
What is asked in the problem?
What are the given facts?
1m
3m
4m
V = l x w x h
= 4m x 3m x 1m
= 12m3
The volume of the fish tank is 12m3
Situation 2
Teacher Danilyn has a rectangular gift box. It has a length of 10cm, a width of 6cm, and a height of 4cm. What is its
volume?
length = 10cm
width = 6cm
height = 4cm
V = l x w x h
= 10cm x 6cm x 4cm
= 240cm3
Remember that volume is measured in cubic units, such as cubic centimeters (cm 3), cubic meters (m3), and cubic
millimeters (mm3). Use V – l x w x h to find the volume of rectangular prism.

1. A rectangular block of wood is 12 cm long, 5 cm wide and 3 cm thick. What is its volume?
2. Girlie used a shoe box for her EPP project. It is 14 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 8 cm high. What is the volume of
the shoe box?
3. Aries has a Balikbayan cube box with an edge of 60 cm. What is the volume of the box in cubic centimeter?
4. Paulene has built a rectangular prism with a volume of 40 cubic units. The length is 5 cubes long and the width is
4 cubes wide. How high is the prism?
5. The length of Riza’s room is twice its width. What is the volume of the room if it is 6 meters high and 7 meters
wide?
Volume is measured in cubic units, such as cubic centimeters (cm 3), cubic meters (m3), and cubic millimeters (mm3).
Use V – l x w x h to find the volume of rectangular prism. Here I is the length, w is the width, and h is the height of
the rectangular prism. Use V = s3 or V = s x s x s to find the volume of a cube. Here, s is an edge of a cube.

3. l = 12 cm
w = 4 cm
h = 5 cm

5. A wooden box is 24 cm long and 28 cm wide. How high if the volume is 6048 cm 3?
Additional Activities
A. Find the volume.
1.
2. length = 12cm
width = 4cm height = 20cm
5. A swimming pool is 10 m long, 8 m wide, and 2 m deep. How much water can it hold?
V. REFLECTION The learners, in their “logbook” will write their personal insights about the lesson using the prompts below.
