Activity Proposal

Activity Title: RISE-C: A Reading Camp 2022

Proponent School: Capayangan Elementary School
Municipality/District: Banisilan North District
Beneficiaries: K-3 Learners

I – RATIONALE

Promoting reading from early years to the last ones results essentially in every grade level. As reading is actually a language skill, it can
be linked to a training period, focusing on pupils from K-3. The school is the key place in order to know the pupils reading skills. The
implementation of face-to-face classes has been an advantage to address learning gaps brought primarily by the abrupt pedagogical shift due to
the pandemic.
Capayangan Elementary School advocates RISE-C Reading Camp 2022 to address the reading performance gaps of learners from Kinder
to Grade 3.

The above-mentioned competencies, which will be worked out and developed during this of time, are absolutely necessary and useful to
promote a School-Wide Reading Program in the school for the next school year promoting reading habits, a daily time will be dedicated to
reading. The school library will be made functional for the learners to practice independent study. It will be suitable that the school will make the
community adapt a pattern of setting up educative centers in the Purok where children could extend their reading practices within the local
community. To promote the reading habit, tasks will be assigned to parents and guardians to monitor the reading activities of learners beyond the
school. Thus appropriate and timely feed backing is an integral part from the beginning to the end of the program.

Remembering that reading is not only obtaining information from a written format as texts or books, it supposes to achieve and improve
several skills as well as the reading habit and pleasure. That is why the method that should be followed deals with this mentioned aspects in
order to get their best, offering them possibilities to be successful. The child is the learning protagonist and teacher is in charge of helping him so
that pupils can learn by doing things on their own, which is the proper form of acquiring knowledge and it is called constructivism. This means
they are on the spotlight and are the ones who do work to achieve an aim. Learners will also rely on Task-based implementation so that they will
work with enabling subtasks unit getting to the final one, which is a show and tell. This is something new for them talking about literacy by
joining all the content and letting them work in groups. Thus the integration of the communicative approach is given importance because it is
the bases of a language and learning as well. During the activities dialogues, expositions, songs or poems will be used as springboards so that
they can communicate with each other and practice the second language as well. The presence of Gardner intelligences is also notable as the
ones who imply movement. A process is fulfilled when all of them are taken into account because they complement each other. Learning in a
bilingual class atmosphere allows pupils to develop several ways of thinking and gives them the required cognitive tools to solve problems, be
creative or autonomous. This thought is kept in the methodology because socialization and community will help develop the emotional aspects
of learners through working in pairs or small groups.
