LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE GRADE-3

I. OBJECTIVES
In this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Understand that all matter has traits that are called properties
2. Recall that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space
3. Classify and sort materials based on their properties
Content standard
The learners should have the idea that matter is anything that has mass and takes space.
Performance standard
The learners will be able to identify the properties of matter based on their observations.
Learning objectives
1. Identify if matter has volume and mass.
2. Classify the different properties of matter
3. Observed how matter work
SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic PROPERTIES OF MATTER
b. References Properties of Matter - Physical and Chemical ... - Byju's
c. Materials Internet, Laptop, Presentation slides
d. Subject integration The properties of matter
II. CONTENT
Learning Resources
Laptop, presentation slides
Other resources
Internet, textbooks
Values Integrated
Observation, comprehension, understanding, and evaluation.
III. PROCEDURE
a. Daily routine
- Prayer
- Greetings
- Checking of attendance
b. Motivation
The student will be playing a game called ‘does it MATTER?’ where the teacher will show them a jumbled letter
and the learners should try to guess if it is a property of matter.

ACTIVITY

“What I know”

The students will sort the words or phrases inside the box into the correct columns.

ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the students the following question
- What is matter?
Matter is any substance that has mass and takes up space by having volume.
- What are the three main properties of matter?
The three main properties of matter are solid, liquid, and gas.
- Is everything in your surroundings are matter?
Yes, because everything in your surroundings has mass and volume. And matter is any substance that
has mass and takes up space by having volume.

ABSTRACTION
- Early philosophers who proposed the particulate theory of matter include Kanada (c. 6th–century BC or after),
Leucippus (~490 BC) and Democritus (~470–380 BC). Matter is a substance made up of various types of particles
that occupy physical space and has inertia. According to the principles of modern physics, the various types of
particles each have a specific mass and size. The most familiar examples of material particles are the electron, the
proton, and the neutron. Moreover, Matter is anything that takes up space and can be weighed. In other words,
matter has volume and mass. There are many different substances, or types of matter, in the universe.

Matter can be categorized by physical and chemical properties. Matter is something that takes up space and has a
mass. The three states of matter are solid, liquid, and gaseous. Physical transition includes the conversion of material
from one state of matter to another without changing its chemical composition.

Matter on Earth is in the form of solid, liquid, or gas. Solids, liquids, and gases are made of tiny particles called
atoms and molecules. In a solid, the particles are very attracted to each other. They are close together and vibrate in
position but don't move past one another.

How does matter important to us? Even if it’s living or non-living things. matter is important because it makes up
everything around us and matter cannot be created or destroyed instead, they just transformed into a different form.

EVALUATION

Direction: Write “T” if the statement is True and “F” if the statement is False.
1. Matter is any substance that has mass and takes up space.
2. Solid, liquid, and gas are made of tiny particles called neutrons.
3. Gaseous is one of the states of matter.
4. Plasma is one of the states of matter
5. In a solid, the particles are very attracted to each other. They are close together and vibrate in position but don't
move past one another.

ASSIGNMENT
In one whole sheet of yellow paper. Make a diagram and differentiate between solid, liquid, and gas.
