number line.

The teacher will ask the following questions:

• From the number line, to which number is 16 743 closer, 16

000 or 17 000?
• What is the new number after rounding to the nearest
thousands? Php 17 000
• What is the value of 6 if rounded to the nearest thousands? 7
000

The teacher groups the students into six groups. Each group will be
given an activity sheet to answer.

Explain
The teacher let the students explain what they have done and
guides them to see the pattern when to round up and when to
round down by asking the following questions:

• How was the activity?

• What did you do to come up with the right answer?
• What is the rounding place if a number is to be rounded to
the nearest thousand? Nearest ten thousands?
• What digit should be at the right of the digit in the rounding
place in order to round down?
• What digit should be at the right of the digit in the rounding
place in order to round up?

The teacher will show a video and discuss to the class some
techniques in rounding numbers.
