Learning Activity 1 : Procedure Text ; manual
1. Definition
Procedure text is a pieces of text that gives us instruction for doing something. Manual refers
specifically to a reference document which provides detailed information about operation and
maintenance of a product

2. Social function
To provide a series of precise, sequenced steps or directions that explain to the readers how to do
something while also allowing the readers to reach the outcome successfully.

3. Generic Structure
a. Goal/aim
b. Materials/equipmets
c. Steps/methods

4. Language Feature
a. Generally using simple present tense.
b. Using adverbial of sequence or using temporal adjective.
c. Using imperative sentences or command.
d. Using action verbs.
 e. Using conjunctions to link a process to another process.
f. Using adverb of time to express details of time.

Learning Activity 2 : Procedure Text ; recipe

1. Definition
Recipe is a list of ingredients and a set of instructions that tell you how to cook something.
A recipe is usually divided into ingredients and methods

2. Social Function
a. To describe how food is completely made or cooked through a sequence ofseries.
b. To describe how food is completely made through a sequence of actions or steps.

3. Generic Structure
a. Goal/aim this is the title of the text
b. Ingredients stating the materials needed to make something
c. Steps/methods stating the steps to make something

4. Language Feature
a. Noun or noun groups
A noun is a word that functions as the name of some spesific thing or set of things. Noun or
noun groups in recipe are used in the listed materials or equipment. For example bowl, rice,
glass, etc.
b. Conjunction
Conjunction is a word to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same
clause. Conjunctions in recipe are used to show chronogical order. For instance before, while,
then, after, etc
c. Action verb
Action verb, as you have guessed, is a verb that expresses an action. Any verb that describes
what someone or something does is an action verb. An action verb can be physical or mental.
For example; cut, mix, stir, put, etc.
d. Imperative
An imperative sentence gives a command. It usually ends with period but it may also end with
an exclamation point. Commands ask or tell people to do something. For example: add some
sugar, mix the ingredients, cut the onion.
e. Adverbial
Adverbial is word or phrase functioning like an adverb. There are two types of adverbial that
are commonly used in recipe. First is adverbial of sequence which is used to add detail
information about the sequence. For example first, 32 second, finally, etc. In addition, another
adverbial is used to express detail of the time, manner, or place. For example for five minutes,
for an hour, in three minutes
f. Vocabulary
Vocabulary that is commonly used in recipe ranges from technical to everyday language
according to the target of language. Emphasis is often given to important information by
underlining it or writing it in bold.
g. Language
The language in recipe is supposed to be clear and precise. However, detailed language is
needed especially in methods section.
h. Tenses
Present tense is generally used in recipe.
Learning Activity 3 : Itinerary

1. Definition
Itinerary is defined as a route or plan or guide book of travel. It usually contains any
information dealing with travel or journey such as schedule of visit (vacation), time, dates,
transportation, and other information

c. Steps

3. Social Function
a. To make a well-prepared program or travel
b. To make an effective journey or travel
c. To be a guideline in spending time during travelling

4. Language Feature
a. Use simple present tense
b. Use action verb
c. Use simple sentence or phrase

Learning Activity 4 : News Item

1. Definition
News item text is a text that tells the readers, listeners or viewers about events of the day. The
 events are considered newsworthy or important.

2. Generic Structure
a. Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in summary form.
b. Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what happened, to whom, in what
circumstance
c. Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by participants in, witnesses to and
authorities expert on the event.

3. Social Function
- To inform the reader, listeners or viewers about newly receive or noteworthy information
especially about recent or important events.

4. Language Feature
a. Using action verbs
b. Using saying verbs . ( She said, informed, told, reported)
c. Using passive voice
d. Using adverb of place, time and manner
e. Using present and past tense
