Q1. Write six characteristics of Metal?

Ans Metals are malleable.
Metals are ductile
They are good conductor of heat and electricity.
They have high melting and boiling point.
They are lustrous or shiny.
They are solid
Q2. Define asexual reproduction?
Ans. Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction in which a new offspring is produced by a single parent. The new
individuals produced are genetically and physically identical to each other, i.e., they are the clones of their parents.
Asexual reproduction is observed in both multicellular and unicellular organisms.
This process does not involve any kind of gamete fusion and there won’t be any change in the number of chromosomes either.
It will inherit the same genes as the parent, except for some cases where there is a chance of a rare mutation occurring.
Q3. State the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic?
Ans. Eucaryotic cells contains a nucleus and organelles bound by plasma membranes. Fungi, plants, and animals are made of
eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic cells do not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles. All bacteria and members of Archaea are made of
prokaryotic cells
Q4. Define Synthetic fibre.
ANS. Synthetic fibres are man-made fibres, most of them are prepared from raw material petroleum called petrochemicals.
All fabrics are obtained from fibres, while fibres are obtained from artificial or man-made sources. They consist of a small
unit or a polymer which is made from many repeating units known as monomers. They include nylon, acrylics,
polyurethane, and polypropylene

Q5. How many types of indicator?

Ans. There are four types of indicator.
1. Natural indicator
2. Universal Indicator
3. Synthetic Indicator
4. Olfactory Indicator

Q6. What is antibiotic?

Ans. Antibiotics are medicines that help stop infections caused by bacteria. They do this by killing the bacteria or by
keeping them from copying themselves or reproducing.

Q7. What do you mean by Virus?

Ans. Virus, infectious agent of small size and simple composition that can multiply only in living cells of animal, plants,
or bacteria. The name is from a Latin word meaning “slimy liquid” or “poison.

Q8. Give Reason:

a. Aluminium foils are used to wrap food item.
Ans. Aluminium is one of the less reactive metals, so it does not react with food items and does not alter the taste.
Moreover, being a metal; aluminium is highly malleable and can be made into very thin foils which are perfect for
wrapping food.
b. Sodium and Potassium are kept in Kerosene?
Ans. Sodium is very reactive metal so it reacts vigorously with the oxygen of air and catches fire. It is kept immersed in
kerosene oil to protect it from the action of oxygen, moisture and carbon dioxide of air and to prevent accidental fires.

Q9. Five uses of Metal and Non-metal?

Ans. Uses of Metal:-
Fe, Cu and Al are used to make cooking utensils, water boilers for factories.
Cu metal is used for making electric wires for household wiring, electric motors, armature of dynamos etc.
Au and Ag are used for making jewellery

Au and Ag are used for making jewellery
Al foils are used for packaging medicines, chocolates, food items etc
Hg is used in making thermometers
Uses of Non-metal:-
Helium is used as inert gas for scientific experiments. It is also used in weather balloons
Iodine helps to prevent throat infections and is used as an antiseptic on wounds and cuts.
Chlorine is useful in removing stains and colour patches as a bleaching agent.
Oxygen which is 21% by volume helps in the respiration process.
Sulphur and phosphorus are used in fireworks

Q10. What is the habitat of Microorganism?

Ans. Microorganisms can have very different habitats, and live everywhere from the poles to the equator, deserts, geysers,
rocks, and the deep sea. Some are adapted to extremes such as very hot or very cold conditions, others to high pressure

Q11. Which season is best for groundnut?

Ans. Groundnut is cultivated commercially in both Kharif as well as Rabi/summer seasons. In kharif (rainy) season the crop
is grown under rainfed conditions between May to December by planting varieties belonging to different habit groups. So,
July is the best month for groundnut.

Q12. Explain the Natural Indicator?

Ans. Natural Indicator is a type of indicator that can be found naturally and can determine whether the substance is an
acidic substance or a basic substance. Some examples of natural indicators are red cabbage, turmeric, grape juice, turnip
skin, curry powder, cherries, beetroots, onion, tomato, etc.
Types of Natural Indicator:-
a. Litmus
b. Turmeric
c. China Rose

Q13. Write the 3 uses of bases?

Ans. Sodium hydroxide is used in the manufacture of soap. It is used in petroleum refining;
Ammonium hydroxide is used to remove ink spots from clothes and to remove grease from window-panel
Calcium hydroxide is also known as slaked lime. It is used to neutralize acid in water supplies

Q14. What is matter?

Ans. A matter, also known as a substance is composed of tiny particles. Anything that has mass and takes up space is
known as matter.

Q15. How plants make their food?

Ans. Plants make their own food by a process called Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other
organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy and stored in the form of starch which can be used later.

Q16. What is digestive system?

Ans. Human digestive system used in the human body for the process of digestion. The human digestive system consists
primarily of the digestive tract, or the series of structures and organs through which food and liquids pass during their
processing into forms absorbable into the bloodstream.

Q17. Name the plants which are dependent on insect.

Ans. Venus flytrap, pitcher plant and cobra lily are some of the insectivorous plants names found in North America. They
are often called Carnivorous plants.
