Module 3 PCA

Within the company there has been one individual that is thought to have more power

than what he is granted. My father started this company over twenty years ago and Doug

continues to think that he knows just as much, if not more, than my father. He has made

degrading remarks to the women that work there along with the women that come in from other

companies. The mindset that he has that “women serve men” is not something that is accepted in

this century, nor should it go unnoticed.

The human resources of the organization influenced the situation by not taking much

action. Part of this is because there is not an actual human resources part of the company. My

father, the CEO, is everything wrapped up into one. When situations arise they have to go

through him and be solved by him. This can be a difficult thing to do because my father does not

do confrontation well. It is not ideal that the owner of the company does not handle confrontation

well but the business has been successful for the last twenty years so something has to be going

right.

The ideas of letting Doug go from the company have been thrown around and are being

taken more seriously in the recent present. Human resources should be implemented more

strictly within this company because of the loose rules that are provided. The basics that every

company has are mandatory but there needs to be more specific guidelines that fit the company

better. When it comes to others that work for Admiral Box Company, they follow the rules well
and there have been no issues to my knowledge since I started working there or from what I have

heard of the past.

I would use the human resources for an alternative course of action regarding my case by

hiring someone that can implement these rules in a more strict manner. Having someone that is

around all of the time to keep a close watch on what others are doing can be helpful in making

sure that things get done on time. Being tougher on people can be beneficial in a time like this

and keep them on track to what needs to be done within the time frame that they are given.

Having free time to let actions wander is not good for business or for the other employees.

Free time within an organization can be viewed to others as slacking off and then they

can start to do the same. Having someone there to take control of these things will be beneficial

to everyone involved. Human resources is someone that will keep people in their place and on

schedule of what the company needs. The fine line that human resources follows should be

crossed in times of crisis. A course of action that needs to be taken is implementing strict rules

until everyone is in agreement and following along.

What I would do differently is a tough question to ask in this situation. I could have said

something in return when comments get made to myself or others or I could have done what I

have and am doing. I do not think that I would do anything differently because this is not my

situation to handle. Someone of higher power needs to handle this or no comments should be

made in the first place.

Conversations need to be had about what goes on within the company that shouldn’t be

happening. This has to involve everyone and guidelines need to be fully explained so that it is

understood. Human resources can become the group of people that want to make the workplace
community a better one. Either way, someone needs to be hired or someone needs to take action

in order to have everyone following the rules that have been set.
