As I watched the video, I was amazed by the kids in it. They are fighting for their
rights. The right to pursue one's dreams, fight for one's land, learn one's culture, and
value one's cultural knowledge is critical to one's culture and community. The video was
made to celebrate October being Indigenous peoples' month. Its purpose is to change
our perception of indigenous people. Indigenous peoples are distinct social and cultural
groups that share collective ancestral ties to the lands and natural resources where they
live, occupy, or from which they have been displaced. The land and natural resources
on which they depend are inextricably linked to their identities, cultures, livelihoods, as
well as their physical and spiritual well-being. They often subscribe to their customary
leaders and organizations for representation that is distinct or separate from those of
the mainstream society or culture. (Indigenous Peoples Overview, n.d.) Indigenous
people must be watched out for as they are part of the community. We must help them
to preserve their culture and traditions to maintain their identity. And with unity, we can!
