STEP 1:

Enhancing Vocabulary:
Activity:
- Ask the learner what he/she packs in his/her school bag before going to school. Write the
learner’s response on a piece of paper.
- Read the introduction given under ‘Vocabulary’ on pg. no. 24.
- Ask the learner to observe the pictures on Pgs. 24 and 25. Then, read aloud the words related to
school from the pictures, and ask him / her to repeat after you. Read out each word at least three
times.

Direct Instructions:
- Read out the passage and sentences given on pgs. 26 and 27, stressing on the emboldened words.
Ask the learner to look at the pictures.

- Ask the learner to describe a few activities that they do every day.
e.g. 1. I go to school every day.
2. We play in the park every evening.
3. I drink milk in the morning.

- Introduce the concept of the simple present tense to the learner using the information on pg. 27.
Go through the examples again. Point out that the words in bold are doing words or action
words.

- Explain to the learner that the simple present tense is used to express things that happen
regularly or the activities that we conduct on a daily basis. Provide some examples of your own to
clarify.
e.g. 1. We brush our teeth every night.
2. The sun sets in the west.
3. The colour of the fire engine is red.

- Using the information in the ‘I Remember’ box, take the learner through the rules and usage of
the simple present tense.
- Provide some examples of your own where these rules have not been followed, and ask the
learner if he/she can spot the mistakes.
e.g. 1. I goes to the park in the evening.
2. He make tasty pulao.
3. It follow me everywhere I go.
4. We cleans our room on weekends.

Direct Instructions:
- Read out the passage and sentences given on pg. 29 to the learner. Stress on the emboldened
words and write them on the board.

- Point out to the learner that these words indicate the actions, which have already been
completed in the past.

- Introduce the concept of the simple past tense using the information in the book. Refer to the
examples and rules of usage given in the ‘Remember’ box.

- Then ask the learner to think of things that they did the previous day and share them in complete
sentences.

- Encourage the learner to give the responses such as ‘I watched a movie last night’, ‘We went out
for lunch yesterday’ and so on.

- Provide a few sentences of your own, and ask the learner to change them to the simple past
tense.
e.g. 1. I brush my teeth at night.
- I brushed my teeth last night.

2. He walks to the market daily.


- He walked to the market.

3. He laughs loudly.
- I laughed loudly.
