FARM CALCULATION
(Finding the Land Surface of a Triangle, Square and Rectangle)

June 25, 2019

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. enumerate the common land surfaces or shapes
b. memorize the different formulas in getting the different land surfaces
c. perform basic farm calculation

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Farm Calculation
Reference: Kto12 Basic Education Technology and Livelihood Education Learning Module; Agricultural Crop
Production; P 41-49
Materials: Laptop
Pictures & Projector

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Classroom Management
Good morning class… Good morning Sir…
Arrange your chairs properly and
pick-up pieces of papers…

Who is absent today? None Sir…

B. Review: (ENTRY PASS)

Each student is given an entry pass wherein Sir we have studied the different farmtools like
they need to write what they have learned from shovel,spade and sickle...
the previous lesson. We also tuckled the different farm equipment such

pass form. Sir we also discussed some of the farm activities...
such as plowing,weeding, harrowing and
Very good... planting...
Do you have any question about our previous
lesson?
None Sir…
C. Motivation: (Word Relay)
1. Assign 6 groups with at least 10 members.
2. Let them form a vertical straight line.
3. The first member in the line will pick a word/
statement or question/problem from a box.
4. He will read & memorize the words then
relay(whisper)the question/problem to the next
member until it reaches the last member.
5. The last member will answer/solve the
problem and present it to the class, give a time
limit.
6. The group who finished first and got the
correct answer wins the game.
The game was done…

D. Presentation: (Present images of land surfaces)

Activity:
We will divide the class into four groups. Each
group will be provided with simple problem
solving for you to answer. The first group to get
correct answer will be given 10 points. Yes Sir...
Are you ready class?
Group 1

A= .5xbxh
= .5 x 4cm x 3cm
= 6 cm2

Group 2

A= .5 x b x h
= .5 x 5cm x 3cm
= 7.5 cm2

Group 3

A= .5 x b x h
= .5 x 6 in x 8 in
= 24 in2

Group 4

A= .5 x b x h
= .5 x 20ft x 6ft
= 60 ft2

Group 5
A= L x W
=5x5
= 25 in2

Group 6

A= L x W
= 24cm x 9cm
Thank you class... = 216 cm2
It is important to be able to measure and calculate surface
areas. It might be necessary to calculate, for example, the
surface area of the cross-section of a canal or the surface
area of a farm. This section will discuss the calculation of
some of the most common surface areas: triangle, square,
rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezium and circle.
Again, what are the different land surfaces?

Sir these the common land surfaces...

Can you give the formula in getting the area of a

triangle, rectangle and square?

Sir, the surface area or surface (A) of a

triangle is calculated by the formula:

A (triangle) = 0.5 x base x height = 0.5 x b x

h ..... (1)
The surface area or surface (A) of a
square or a rectangle is calculated
by the formula:
Very good class!!!
A (square or rectangle) = length x width = l x w
Analysis:
The surface of these triangles is expressed in
square centimeters (written as cm2). Surface
areas can also be expressed in square
decimeters (dm2), square meters (m2), etc...
In a square the lengths of all four sides are equal
and all four angles are right angles.
In a rectangle, the lengths of the opposite sides
are equal and all four angles are right angles.

Abstraction:

Cherry, can you give your own concept about our

lesson today?

Sir...I have learned that area is a measure of how

Very good… much space there is inside a shape.  Calculating
the area of a shape or surface can be useful in
Application:
everyday life – for example you may need to know

problem on the board?

Yes, Sir...

Answer
Formula: A = 0.5 x base x height
= 0.5 x 3 cm x 2 cm = 3 cm2
A = 0.5 x 3 cm x 2 cm = 3
cm2
How about this next problem?
Answer
Sir... Formula: A = length x width
= 2 cm x 2 cm = 4 cm2
Formula: A = length x width
= 5 cm x 3 cm = 15
cm2

Evaluation:
Directions. Find the different land surfaces in the picture below and calculate its area.
Assignment:
Cut out a triangle and paste it on your notebook. Measure the base and the height using the ruler and find the area.
Solve below the triangle.
