Appropriate Learning Environment / Classroom Management

(NARRATIVE REPORT 5)

Activity 1: Analyze

1. Does giving class rules reinforce positive behavior?

ANSWER: Yes, giving class rules help in controlling student behavior and establish the
environment for effective learning in the classroom. Furthermore, they direct children's
actions and encourage consistency, making the learning environment comprehensible. This
allows children to develop with the security they require to enhance in their physical,
emotional, and social development.

2. Did the student participate in making the class rules? Ask your resource teacher on what is
the effect of the students' participation in class rule making on students behavior?

ANSWER: According to my Resource Teacher, their class rules are predetermined, which
means that they are already structured during the preparation of online classes. Although,
during the generation orientation and classroom orientation, the valid excuses and exemptions
to the rules are further discussed. With this, the students are given the chance to ask questions
about these rules. On the other hand, with this participation the students may feel that they are
involved in the rule-making and they feel that they are being heard. They are not simply
following the rules because they are rules but because they know that it benefits them too.
Students do not feel passive learners because they are given the chance to hear their sides and
possible considerations in the rule-making process.

3. What are the daily routines done by the resource teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment
of monitors, warm up activities, etc) How they are done?

ANSWER: My resource teacher begins the class with an opening prayer and then reminds
the entire class of the rules (do's and don't s) in the online session. Following that, she will
conduct warm-up activities to assess her students' mood and behavior in order to determine
whether or not the class is prepared for the lesson.

4. Observe the noise level in the class. How this is managed?

ANSWER: The noise level is manageable since it is an online class which in the first place
the teacher requests all students to mute themselves if they don’t have anything to say in the
class.

5. If a learner is not following instruction or is off-task, what does the resource teacher do?

ANSWER: While the teacher is discussing and the students are unmuted for example, she
will pause the discussion and call the student's name, politely asking if there is anything
wrong or if they have any questions, and if there are none, the student will mute themselves
and the teacher will continue, causing no disruption to the entire class.

6. What does the resource teacher do to reinforce positive behavior?

ANSWER: The resource teacher reinforces the students' learning by providing positive
feedback on their responses. Hence, there are students in every class to whom the teacher
cannot easily get their attention while discussing, especially if they are bored and have some
distractions on them. Thus through my observation, my resource teacher plans more activities
which are more applicable in class to keep her students' attention.

ACTIVITY 2: REFLECTION

1. Why do you need to reinforce positive discipline?

ANSWER: Enforcing positive discipline is important for successful classroom management.

Regardless of whether the students are well-behaved, there are still unexpected situations that
will test the teachers' patience. Thus, positive discipline must be enforced among students in
order to positively address issues that may arise in the classroom while not being overly cruel
on students. With this, students will no longer have negative thoughts about themselves,
which will result in fewer unhealthy behaviors or reactions from students. This will also
assist the teacher in instilling positive values in the students. Furthermore, students will be
held accountable for their actions, be rational and critical, and make sound decisions in a
variety of situations.

Activity 3: ANALYZE

Analyze the routines set by your resource teacher by answering the following questions.

1. Were the routines effective in ensuring discipline and order in the class? Why? Why not?

ANSWER: Yes, based on my observation it is proven that establishing routines in the

classroom nurtures self-esteem and self-discipline, as well as encouraging students to take
their studies seriously in order to get good marks.

2. Which of those routines were systematic and consistently implemented? Explain your
answer.

ANSWER: In my observation I believe that it is the "question and answer during and after
the lessons." is the one for being systematically and consistently implemented. This method
amazed me because when the teacher asks a question to the students, she encourages them to

respond with an idea or a follow-up question that elicits the same answer which encourages
students to engage more in the learning of the class.

Activity 4 REFLECTION

Reflect on the routines that you observed.

1. Which of the routines will you most likely apply in your class? Why? Why not?

ANSWER: One of the routines I've observed so far is "Project Submission," which I'd like to
integrate into my class. Since this is a project submission, the students will need to provide
documentation during the task creation process so that I can easily determine whether they
did it themselves or not.

Activity 5: ANALYZE

Analyze the different elements of personal/physical classroom / online / video conferencing

management and answer the following questions.

1. How does the voice of the teacher affect classroom instruction?

ANSWER: The teacher employs a well-modulated voice that is very appealing to the
students, captivating them to pay close attention and participate fully in class.

2. How does punctuality of the teacher affect classroom discipline?

ANSWER: The teacher's punctuality clearly shows consistency and determination,

demonstrating that the teacher is doing her part to be a role model to her students.

3. Why do we need to check on the physical aspects of classroom / online class management?

ANSWER: We must evaluate the physical aspects of classroom / online class management in
order to improve student learning and behavior toward their academic performance.

Activity 6: REFLECTION

1. What does this statement mean to you as a future teacher? Explain. "No amount of good
instruction will come out without effective classroom / online class management".

ANSWER: This statement means that, regardless of how good a teacher you are, if you aren't
an effective educator, your class will not be orderly organized and successful. As future
teachers, we must plan as well as evaluate our actions in order for students to learn and for us
to achieve our goals. Because I believe that a well-planned classroom is essential for success.

2. What are your plans in ensuring effective classroom / online class management?

ANSWER: My initial plan is, rather than punishing the class for negative behaviors, I would
rather listen to them before criticizing them to ensure effective classroom management. I
want to communicate with them because I want to have a good relationship with them. That
way, I can empower them to keep studying and concentrate on what really matters.
