Literacy Dimension

Day 1
May 25, 2022

5:00 pm-7:oopm

The task given to us for our first day in our Project Proposal was to create a report about fire
prevention along with the lessons related to the prior topic. Since each topic was distributed in groups
of two, I and my partner decided to take turns making and editing the report allotted to us. However,
because my laptop was broken at that time and I had no extra device to record myself making the
report, I chose to screen record the process to document the activity.

Through making the content, browsing the internet, and searching for references online, my
knowledge of fire safety increased. Because I had a teammate while preparing the file, the process is
easier and faster in a more efficient and productive manner. However, using an android phone to
prepare the power-point presentation gave me a little trouble since it is easier to do it on a pc or laptop.
After doing my part on the said presentation, I send it to my partner so that she could add more
information and make the presentation interesting. To end day one of the 1 st Dimension, I edited my
screen recording to a time-lapse process and prepare for the presentation on the following day.

Day 2

May 26, 2022

1-pm – 4pm

The morning before the lecture started, I asked my cousins to come over this afternoon and
listen to my presentations on Fire Safety and preventive measures that must b taken seriously. I
persuade them that this knowledge will help them in many ways and having the knowledge that I will
share can be helpful someday.

Due to the work schedules of sisters who are working in other regions, they are rarely home,
thus they cannot participate in the said activities.

I prepared all the materials needed for the lecture before my guest arrives. These include all the
PowerPoint presentations for the discussions ahead, the sample kits on the fire prevention bag, and the
learning materials that will be distributed during the discussions.

Set and ready, I greeted my guests cheerfully to start the discussions in a positive manner. I let
Ms. Kiethly Ann Delos Reyes lead the prayer before the lesson proceeds. After that, I gave brief
information about what community immersion is about and its relation to the topic that will be
discussed further on. Proceeding to the discussions, I explained the topics written in lectures 1 and 2.

Lecture 1 states the Introduction to fire safety and preventive measures for home fires. It states
that Fire safety refers to planning and infrastructure design aimed at reducing the risk of fire or
impeding the spread of fire when one does break out.

Fire safety encompasses the use of fire-resistant building materials, preventative actions, safe
work practices, fire safety training, flame-resistant protective clothing, and more.

The presentation also enumerated the specific details that all must remember to prevent fire
accidents. These include 1. Ensuring adherence to local building codes; 2. Ensuring the provisions of fire
codes (exits, stairs, markings, signage, etc.) are followed; 3. Compliance with electrical and safety codes;
4. Fire risk assessments when a building, Equipment, or process is modified; 5. Proper storage of
flammable and hazardous materials; 6. Installations of fire detection and automatic or semi-automatic
fire alarm system; 7. Arrangement of correct types of operational fire extinguishers and hydrants; 8.
Training users in fire extinguishers, fire alarms, emergency evacuation, and assembly procedures; and 9.
Conducting fire drills regularly by coordinating with the local fire department.

Since there are two lessons taken on the same day, there are breaks in between discussions.

In lecture 2, Preventive Measures of Home Fires are discussed. It is also important to remember
how to call the Bureau of Fire Protections hotline number 9-1-1 in case of emergencies. The stop, drop,
and roll process is also given importance since it’s a must to remember in case when their clothes catch
on fire.

The last topic discussed on Day 1 are What to and what not to do in fire safety precautions. To
end the discussions, I asked Ms. Monica Graced Ramos to lead the closing prayer. After ending the
presentation to the guest, I invited them for a dinner to appreciate their participation and cooperation
in the activity. I also gave them a heads up for the activities and lessons that will be tackled on the
following day.

DAY 3

MAY 27, 2022

4:00PM-7:00PM

On the last day of Dimension 1, I prepared all the materials needed for the discussions. This
includes the fire safety kits and the bag which contains all the important files and necessary items for
emergencies including first aid kits and some food supplies.

To start the discussions, I let Ms. Delos Reyes lead the prayer. After that, I greatly welcome them
and started a positive vibe to go on with the activity. Lecture 3; Lecture 4; and Lecture 5 are discussed
on the last day.

Reviews on previous discussions are made and both participated and interacted very well. They
asked for some clarifications regarding the topic before proceeding to the next one.

In lecture 3, we tackled “what to do if a fire starts”. Since they find the topics easy to
understand, they express their own thoughts and opinions, and we had an exchange of discussions. Next
is the Lecture 4. It tackled “Recovering After A fire”
