I. OBJECTIVES Describe what happens to solid when mixed with liquid materials
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of changes that materials undergo
when exposed to certain condition
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to evaluate whether changes in materials are
useful or harmful to one’s environment
C. Learning
Competencies Describe what happens to the solid materials when mixed with other solid
or Objectives materials.
D. Most Essential Describe changes in properties of materials when exposed to certain
Learning conditions such as temperature or when mixed with other materials; (S4MT-
Competencies (MELC) Ig-h-6)
(if available, write the
indicated MELC)

B. References Science 4 Modules, Science LM.
C. Materials PowerPoint, video, pictures, c
III. LEARNING STRATEGY
A. Preliminary Activities Drill
A. Review:
Direction: Write Homogeneous if the two solid materials cannot distinguish
when mixed and Heterogeneous if the two solid materials can still be
identified when mixed.

B. Developmental Presenting the Lesson

Activities QUESTION:
1. What solid materials can be completely dissolved in a liquid material?
2. What solid materials cannot completely dissolve in liquid materials
3. What are the changes that you observed when solid and liquid
materials are mixed?
4. What happen to solid materials when mixed with liquid materials
Experiment time:
Materials:
Spoon, plastic glass, water, milk, salt, sand
Discussion:
Mixture is a combination of two or more materials. Two types of mixture,
heterogeneous and homogeneous materials. In mixing solid to liquid, some
solid materials can be completely dissolved in liquid materials, forming
homogeneous mixture. Solution is the mixture wherein two or more materials
are combined together where the solid substances completely dissolved in a
liquid, the solid materials is called solute, while the liquid is called solvent.

C. Generalization What happen to the two solid materials when mixed to liquid?

D. Application

c. Salt and water
d. Vinegar and water
2. Which of these is an example of a solid and a liquid?
a. 1 teaspoon of a sand in a glass of water
b. 1 teaspoon of sugar in a glass of water
c. 70% alcohol solution
d. Cooking oil mix with in a glass of water
3. What might happen when flour is mixed with cold water?
a. The flour will completely dissolve in water
b. The flour will partial dissolved in water
c. The flour will not dissolved in water at all
d. The flour will not settle at the bottom of the water
