Acknowledgement
First of all, the members of this project would like to thank our almighty God who gave
us strength to overcome pressure while doing this project proposal, power of mind, protection
and skills, throughout this project. We would like to acknowledge our NSTP teachers who
helped us in accomplishing this project, Mrs. Noralyn A. Gutierrez. She provided so much
support and was always there to calm us down when we were incredibly stressed. We are
forever grateful to have her assistance during this journey.
To our parents and loved ones who had been our source of inspiration and strength on
making this project.

And lastly to my group mates who had been there and also worked hard for this and
gave their full effort just to accomplish this project.
Sometimes, you need people to tell you that it is all going to work out and come
together in the end. We could not have done this project without them. This is the fruit of our
work. God bless.

Description:
Our community is becoming increasingly concerned about the current state of comfort
and stress among our local barangay employees. Even before the pandemic, our barangay
workers had a lot of work to do, and when the pandemic hit, they faced even more
challenges. Our group came up with the idea of making recycled throw pillows to send to our
barangay staff as a thank you for their hard work and dedication. Also, our recycled throw
pillows are made from plastic waste from chip packets, liquid or powdered soaps, and other
similar items as long as they are not difficult to clean, such as oil seasoning packets from
instant noodles. The pillow casing, on the other hand, is made from old clothes or some other
fabric we have on hand. We selected this list of materials for our project because they are
readily available and cost little to nothing to make. We also came up with the idea of offering
recycled throw pillows to our barangay staff so they won't get in the way when they're
working, and they'll be able to relax their rigid bodies from overwork. It was simple and
common, but it would most likely affect the barangay workers as a token of appreciation.

Budgetary Requirements with breakdown

These are the estimation of revenue and expenses over a specified period of time and are
usually compiled and re-evaluated on a periodic basis.
The following are the description and source of materials being used in making of the pillow:

Description Source of Materials

Garbage (Plastic Waste) From garbage dump, trash cans, garbage bags, scraps
and home junk waste.

Fabric cloth (Pillowcase) From old pillowcase, unused fabric clothing, old blankets,
bedding sheets and curtains.

Scissors Borrowed/Owned

Thread Borrowed/Owned

Sewing Machine Borrowed from a neighbor who is tailor or who owns one
or own property.

Source of Fund:
Our team thought of making a pillow whose content is a tiny cut of any plastic that
causes plastic pollution and the pillowcase to be used is made of recycled clothes or fabrics
that can be found in our home or ask our near relative or acquaintance if they have recycled
clothes. When we conducted a meeting in google meet, all of our teammates said that they all
have the materials needed for our project in their home and none of our team has any
needles and thread to sew the pillowcase to be used for said pillow. So it means we haven’t
used or released any money on the project we chose to do. We just exert time and effort to do
our project.

NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM

LITERACY TRAINING SERVICE

I. Project Title
Trashy to Softy
II. Rational
Trashy to Softy is a home-based project of the group of Slytherin having nine
members. It is a 18 by 18 pillow which has square cut plastic put inside the inner cover and
used cloth serves as a front cover. This project is made for our hero today, to those frontlines
specially the barangay workers who maintain the safety and peace of the people. It is real, the
way each group members put an effort in making a trash directly plastic into a usable product
which is now entitled Trashy to Softy. It is relevant for barangay Tanod to use specially when
they are on duty during night time.
2.1Target Community
Nowadays, we are enduring environmental dilemmas such as global warming, flash
floods, and pollution. One of the causes of these problems is the rowdiness of individuals
towards waste management. Some people are tossing their garbage anywhere they want
without thinking about the potential aftereffects of their activities on the environment as well
as on health. Waste disposal, the collection, handling, and reusing or statement of the
squander materials of human society. Waste is classified by source and composition. Waste
materials are either fluid or strong in shape, and their components may be either unsafe or
inactive in their impacts on well-being and the environment. According to Earth Day Network’s
statistics of 2018, Due to improper waste management, the Philippines has been detected to
be the third-largest fount of plastic escaping through the ocean and has the most elevated
garbage collection rates in Southeast Asia.
With that problem, we've come up with one project that will surely be a big help in
lessening the number of scattered waste specifically plastic. This project is dedicated to our
beloved environment, to maintain its cleanliness and its beauty. The plastic will be cut into
small pieces and we will be using those cut plastics to fill the fabric in, arising from having a
pillow. After doing so, we will be giving the finished products to Barangay Tanods, who will
surely be happy upon receiving that. This project is a dual-purpose project, the first purpose is
to lessen the scattered plastic to maintain the cleanliness of our nature and another one is to
help the Barangay Tanods. To give something that will make them comfortable upon resting.
2.2 Duration of the Project
Our home-based project officially started on the 10th of April, 2021 with the required
deadline of 7th of June, 2021.

2.3 Other Relevant Information

Our Project Proposal entitled “ Trashy to Softy” has an output of “recyclable pillow”.
The said output is to be distributed to the Barangay Tanod in different barangays of all the
members of our group. Because we have different places or locations, we have different
beneficiaries but of course it’s still aligned in our goals as a group. We chose them as our
beneficiaries for them to feel that they are not forgotten, that their deeds are necessary in
every barangay and for them to feel relaxed and at ease while they are on duty. Another good
thing is we are less exposed outside because the Barangay Hall where the Barangay Tanods
are working is near our homes. Barangay Tanod is also a Front liner because every single
day they are exposed to different kinds of people. With our project, we not only contribute and
support the cleanliness within the community but we want to contribute more on general
welfare by helping and appreciating them with their effort and work in serving the community.

III. Objectives

3.1 Short Term Objectives

The short-term objective is for the barangay workers to relax and enjoy the thought of
having a new and unique item in their workspace. Having new entertainment in a workplace
boosts the workers' efficiency and morale.

3.2 Long Term Objectives

The long-term objective is to keep the barangay workers getting comfort during their
duty or even during their breaks which makes their working efficiency better. Our pillows were
secured to be able to last a very long period of continuous use so that we can fulfill our long-
term objective.

“Trashy to Softy”

Description

A pillow in the center of the picture was a captured portrait. It is placed on the table
with flowers in the front side of the table. It is an 18 by 18 inches square pillow coated with
flowery cover. The four sides of the pillow were sewed back stitch using white thread. It is
composed of different printed violet flowers. Yellowish and violet colors highlight its relaxing
view.

Reflection

This Home-Based Project of the National Training Service Program made a great
impact on my life in this time of pandemic. A "Trashy to Softy" home-based project of
Slytherin made a small thing possible to make me realize the use of creativity, consider our
environment and do an act to have a response to community problems. From trash like
plastics that are usually thrown everywhere, and from used clothes that are usually put in
garbage will transform into a usable pillow, a creative product. By doing this home-based
project, it makes me handle my time very well, setting a time management plan to be
considered. It’s not my first time making a pillow from trash but creating a pillow with used
materials really gives me a hard time sewing a top cover because a needle seems to have
rust. Trashy to Softy made our group consider a heroic act of those barangay peace workers
known as Barangay Tanod. We gave our biggest gratitude by simply giving them a pillow that
was made by our effort. This pillow is not only an item to display but also serves as Barangay
Tanod's comforts while they are on duty. By doing a home-based project, I have great
memories with my mother and my grandmother. They are insisting on doing this project but I
want to put an effort in doing it so I just make conversation with them while doing a pillow.
We, as individuals, are part of the community, so let's act as one. Encourage ourselves to be
responsible in any aspect of life.

DOCUMENTATION 1

April 10, 2021. Saturday, 9 o’clock in the morning when Slytherin set a Google meet. It
is a meeting through Google meet by the group of Slytherin. We heard different suggestions
of projects we may do as a group. We came up with an idea of a pillow that is made of plastic
which is cut into pieces. It was the easiest, affordable and less expensive. Then, our leader,
Jhinky Bravo and Liliene Cabungcal discussed the things we may know in our project and
even in the defense. Tackle the respondents, the essence and objective of our project. At
first, it is hard to think of whom we consider as a respondent but we decided to give our
project made pillow to barangay workers especially Tanod who was guiding us during curfew
hours. We come up with the title of “Trashy to Softy”.
DOCUMENTATION 2

April 13, 2021. It’s Tuesday evening, and suddenly Ms. Bravo sent a message to our
group chat requesting for each member's insight about what kind of project our project is.
10:26 pm when she sent a message and anytime before the project proposal we can share
our insight. As I do my part, “Our pillow was made from recycled plastic which is cut into

pieces that serves as a cotton in the pillow and our top coat is the unused clothes of
ourselves. It helps our community to lessen the trash in our surroundings and makes a person
adapt new ideas to be creative.” April 15, Ms. Bravo sent to Slytherin group chat the soft copy
of our presented project proposal to be checked by NSTP Coordinators including Mrs.

April 30, 2021, Friday, when I started collecting trash because Wednesday, when Mrs.
Gutierrez informed BSED 1-E regarding the approved project proposal, one of the lucky
groups being Slytherin. Mrs. Gutierrez suggested making our title “Trashy to Softy” instead of
“From Trashy to Softy”. I was going to start my project on the last day of the month of April.
Since, Mrs. Gutierrez approved our group project to make a pillow using plastic trash; I
decided to collect our trash like the plastic of noodles, bread and chips. Before the day ends, I
put my collected trash in a plastic bag for me to easily get it. It’s easy for me to collect plastic
trash because there are so many children in our house like my niece and nephew who love
eating either bread or chips so I just collect the trash in the box that serves as garbage in our
balcony.

Then, I used my striped polo shirt to swipe the dirt in the plastic. In which, I decided to clean it
first to easily cut the plastic into small square pieces the next day.

May 10, 2021. Monday, I decided to follow the date of the work plan. I stay in our living
room because I’m alone in our house. I got the cleaned plastic and the scissors from my

free time. I cut the plastic from the morning until the afternoon. It took a lot of time to cut the
plastic which totally led to your hands being rough. Definitely, as always Ms. Bravo reminds
the group of Slytherin, patience is really the key.

with the documentation made by the member. We plan how we are going to do the different

May 15, 2021. Sunday morning, I am done cleaning our house. So, I decided to go
upstairs and pick unused cloth from the closet composed of our family’s unused cloth. I
choose the one which is thin, white cloth to make an inner cover to the square cut plastic.
Since, it is already used when my nephew celebrates his 1st birthday. Then, I picked a flowery
violet long skirt used when I was senior high school in dancing folk dances. I chose this long
skirt to be my cover in the pillow presented when I once finished creating it.
DOCUMENTATION 8

May 16, 2021. Monday morning, I set the plan of hand washing the cloth I use on
covering the pillow. I go to our kitchen, using the basin; I put a Tuff soap powder to the water
to clean the dirt in the cloth. After a while, I wash it very well then raise cloth to drain its water
in my grandmother’s old house. It didn’t take an hour to wash the cover because it is a thin
cloth.

because it’s our business but no, it’s my own project so I just talked to her while sewing. I use
my mother’s sewing tools like needle and the extra thread used in sewing school uniform and
scissors to sew the inner cover which is a thin white cloth. After I formed an 18 by 18 inches
square, I put the small square cut plastic so I was able to make a top cover the next day.

May 28, 2021. Friday morning, I started sewing my top cover. I first cut the garter of the
long skirt, then used a ruler to form an 18 by 18 inches square cover. Cut it then sew it
manually with the use of needle and thread. After a while, I insert the inner pillow so I can sew
the cover fitting its size. I felt happy when I finished sewing the top cover and saw the result of
my hard work and effort.

June 04, 2021. Mondy morning, I approach one of the barangay Tanod in our
barangay. He is Ruby Sales, the chief of Barangay Tanod in Barangay Tangob, Lipa City. He
is 39 years old. He is almost 7 years serving the barangay. He is the one I choose in almost
10 barangay Tanod because he twice help my family in terms of peace and emergency. And
for thanksgiving, I choose him as my beneficiary. It is early in the morning when I go to
barangay but there's no person so I choose to go to their house. I interrupt his activity but he
let me in and hold the paper bag but felt sorry for not holding the pillow itself since his hands
is dirty for cleaning his parents house. Still, he is thankful for giving him a pillow. I don't have
the opportunity to have a photo with him because I'm alone and no one can handle the
camera. I felt happy because once in a lifetime, I can thank a person without doubt and
hesitation because I considerate him as a hero in all matter. Maybe it's just a simple pillow to
all, but for me, it show human effort, thanksgiving and consideration. Thank you, Sir!

“Trashy to Softy”

Description

This pillow consist of recycled materials, plastics specifically the “balat ng tsitsirya”,
used clothes and used mantle or the fabric. The cover of this pillow is from our old sofa, I
used to choose this cover because it will not longer be used anymore because it’s ruined
already. Additionally, the size of this pillow is 18 by 18. I sewed this pillow four times
because of the used clothes that I’ve used here in my pillow before the real cover of it.

Reflection

I do believe that being in the amidst of this pandemic is not easy. There’s a doubt to
my own capabilities and abilities. I never thought that this home-based project made an
impact on my life. This project taught me to continue moving forward and explore something. I
was never a fond of sewing even before in my Elementary days. I always fail when it comes
to sewing but I know to myself that I surpassed it already. I can sew now, maybe it’s not as
good as others but I know to myself that I did well. Moreover, those plastics that I’ve used
here in my pillow, I realized that it’s not about the waste that needs to burn—we just need to
think what will be the goods in them, on what will be the benefits from those plastics. This
output will be given to our beloved Barangay Tanod. We choose them as a beneficiaries
because we want them to feel relax through using our home made pillow. In addition, we want
them to feel the comfort while they are on their duty. I know it was a simple pillow but I know it
will be a big help to those people who in need it and that’s the purpose why we pursue to
make this output.

April 10, 2021—the first day that we started to brainstorm about what project we will
make. But before that, my co-leaders and I discussed first what we will be doing in our
project. We discussed first all the topics, the content of this project proposal, how it will be
graded, who will be our beneficiaries, and what will be our objectives to this project. When
everything was good, we started to have a brainstorming session. Everyone had their own
ideas on what would be our project, but we came up with a choice of what will be the easiest
to do, very affordable, and of course less expenses. We decided to choose a pillow that is
made in recyclable material, like “balat ng tsitsirya” that is cut into a small piece of fabric or
the used clothes. After that, when everything was settled, I told them that we need to think of
a title for our project and we came up with “Trashy to softy.”

“Trashy to Softy”

Description
The proposed project entitled “Trashy to Softy”, is an 18x18 inches pillow made of
recycled materials. It’s pillow stuffing consists of cut up plastic waste and double pillow
casing, one sealed with the stuffing and one outer casing which is washable.
Reflection
The main objective of our proposed project is to provide comfort and increase our
target beneficiaries’ morale while working. I’ve realized during making this project that it is
very doable, even kids can make it and it makes our plastic waste less by recycling it and
plastic wrappers are not exactly easy to find a project to use for. The only problem or concern
I’ve encountered in making the project was collecting the plastics and learning how to operate
the sewing machine but upon spending time collecting (plastic) everyday and learning the
machine, I eventually got over it. My most memorable moment during this project would be
when I finished my pillow, I got so amused with my creation seeing that it was successful.

“Trashy to Softy”

Description
Pillow creation is our chosen project, hence our project title is "Trashy to Softy". The
core of the cushion we'll make is cut into small pieces of plastic, unlike a traditional pillow with
content of cotton or feathers. Our used pillowcase, on the other hand, was made from unused
clothes or fabric and was hand-sewn. Our pillow is 18x18 inches in size, which is the standard
size for a throw pillow seen in a sofa. We also did not spend any money on our project,
instead focusing on the effort and time we allotted to complete it.

Reflection
What we consider trash can nevertheless be used into something new and helpful. We
may still help our environment by reducing waste pollution in this manner. As I was collecting
plastic from my neighbors, I saw that they were not burning waste on some days, which is
beneficial for reducing air pollution because plastic is hazardous to the environment since it
releases poisonous compounds into the air. While I was working on my project I learned a lot
and encountered various matters. I've learned that there are things I can do with garbage that
I can use as well. I can make decorations and other things that I can use. I also learned that
when there is something I don’t know I can ask other people because asking is a way of
learning. I realize that cooperation is the first thing that must be applied to a group in order to
finish the project quickly and beautifully. At the same time, I was having difficulties with my
project because of the flying little plastic that I had cut and was being carried by the wind.
Once again my fingers are red because maybe from holding the scissors for a long time and
there are also times when I am hit by laziness which results in me not finishing what I have to
do right away. I knew from the beginning that I was going to go through this so I also tried to
stop it. What mattered was that I did a good job of finishing what I was doing and that I
learned something.

DOCUMENTATION

On April 10, 2021, we will hold our first group meeting. We discuss and share our ideas
regarding the project we will be working on. Today, everyone works together and makes
suggestions for what we should create. We are seriously considering a project that is both
cost - effective and easy to do. We had a lot of suggestions and options, but the one that we
think is the best is pillow creation. We all agreed to make a pillow using a tiny cut of any
plastic as the content. (balat ng chitchirya).

April 21, 2021, I start gathering plastic that I think I can use. I also ask my neighbors
and relatives if they have plastic trash because most of our trash is dry leaf. This action helps
to prevent plastic pollution.

On April 21, 2021, I will begin collecting plastic that I believe I will be able to use. As
most of our trash is dried leaves, I ask my neighbors and relatives if they have plastic trash.
This action contributes to the reduction of plastic pollution.

22nd of April, 2021 I dried the plastics that I had cleaned the day before. I wiped down
the cleaned plastics with a dry cloth and set them aside for the night. Even though I dried it
well with a dry cloth, it did not completely dry, so I thoroughly dried it to remove any remaining
water and dirt so that the scissor I would use does not rust.

I started cutting plastics on the same day April 22, 2021 because I didn't have anything
else planned for the day. Since it was little and easily blown away by the wind, I broke it into
small pieces and kept it in a huge plastic bag so they wouldn't litter or scatter.

April 29, 2021 I picked up and collected plastics again because I don't think the ones
collected were enough for the pillow I was going to make. Like before I asked my neighbors
and relatives again if they had plastic waste. I also looked in the nearby trash cans for
plastics.I also cleaned the collected and picked plastic on the same day April 29, 2021
because I had nothing else to do. As usual, I washed and dried the plastics thoroughly. I
wiped it off with a dry cloth and set the plastics I'd cleaned aside for the night.

May 4, 2021, I cut out the plastics I got and I cleaned. I cut it into small pieces and put
it back in the big plastic bag. I had a bit of a hard time because the scissors I used were dull
because the scissors I bought were missing and that was all my free time.

On May 14, 2021, we have another Google Drive meeting. The progress of our
projects was discussed during this meeting. I'm grateful that everyone has already completed
something, and some of our group mates are nearing completion. We also talked about the
work schedule and documentation we'll be doing, as well as the reflection. During that
meeting, we also asked about things we didn't understand that should be done. Cooperation
and unity are always practiced by our group.

May 20, 2021, I measured the old dress I found to make a pillowcase that I would
make. It took me a while to measure because I only used a ruler and it was still cut. After I
measured it, I cut it out. That day I also sewed the fabric I cut. The cut plastic pieces are then
placed on it.

I gave my pillow to Ate Rica one of the hardworking workers in our barangay and my neighbor.
I gave the pillow I make on June 14, 2021 at ate Rica house, Brgy. Bulakin, Sitio. Calamigan, Tiaong
Quezon.
Originally our target beneficiaries are the barangay tanod but our barangay hall are temporary
close since our Kapitana Jessica Nasaan died due to Covid 19 virus and we are not yet allow to go at
barangay hall so I give it to the person who also work really hard like barangay tanod and that is my
neighbor ate Rica. I saw how ate Rica lives on the line when pandemic start and during lockdown. I
want to appreciate ate Rica's hardwork and kindness, especially sacrificing her own health to take
care of the people in our community by giving that pillow.
Like John Arthur said, giving should be voluntary, and many would refuse to participate in a
system that made it necessary. When we consider human nature in general, we might conclude that
many people believe humans are greedy. Many people we encounter in our daily lives, such as
neighbors, relatives, and barangay employees, may help to make our lives easier. While giving does
not always have to be in the form of a present, saying thank you with a kind word or a warm smile
goes a long way toward encouraging a friendly and successful connection with someone.

“Trashy to Softy”

Description
Our project entitled "Trashy to Softy" aims to provide a recyclable pillow that is to be
distributed to the Barangay Tanod in our community. The said pillow used recyclable
materials like used cloth and plastic wrappers and sewed it by hands. It has a measurement
of 18 by 18 inches and has a purple pillow case.

Reflection
The National Service Training Program (NSTP) allows us to create a project within the
community. By doing our project entitled "Trashy to Softy", I realized that we can make a big
change by doing small deeds. You can help others on your very own little ways. As part of our
community, I think we should observe the things around us and be vigilant on the things that
our community really needs. We should also give importance to those who provide services in
our community, respect their works and cooperate with them to attain a peaceful and great
community that we all wanted. To achieve the goals of our community we need to be as one.
Do your part as a responsible community member because every effort counts.

I started collecting plastic wrappers in different places in our community. It was really
challenging collecting plastic wrappers. I should have a clear sight to see if there's a trash
somewhere. Luckily, every single day I was able to collect more and more plastics.

When the plastic wrappers are already dry, it's time to cut it. I cut the plastic wrappers
into small square pieces that will put inside of the recycled pillow. For me, it's really hard
cutting plastic wrappers because of the scissors, it will took a long time cutting those plastic
wrappers. Sometimes the small pieces are getting blew by a strong wind and it's hard to get.

“Trashy to Softy”

Description:
The title of the project is “trashy to softy”. It is an 18 by 18 inches pillow stuffed with plastic
waste and sewed with the use of hands and machinery. The fabric used is an unused
pillowcase with brown color and typical designs.
Reflection
Doing this project I know for a fact that there’s a great responsibility that lies within me. I
start to think from the very beginning about all the possible thing that can happen after
finishing this task. It’s relieving that I am doing a task which is purposeful and intentional to
other person. It’s a relief that I can give back to the environment and to all the frontliners.
Even in the simplest way, I am able to give back. It’s helpful to environment because plastics
are being recycle. It’s beneficial to barangay workers because it can lessen their stress and
can give comfort to them. It’s also good to think that during the time I am doing my pillow, I
am also benefiting from it. When cutting plastics, I feel relax and it turn my anxiety away from
me. It becomes my new instant hobby for a month. I like the idea of reaching the community
through helping them with the kind of service which all the people really deserve. I maybe
needing to exert an extra effort for doing it, but it don’t matter as long as the goal is to serve
the people and helping the environment. Lastly, I learn within this short period of time that
time flies so fast and, that we can’t easily fill a full pillowcase with plastics. All we need is
patience, determination and motivation. When days are passing by, pillows are stuff with
many plastics day by day so, pillow is created. It’s fulfilling that I fulfill my goal which is to
finish the pillow and share it to deserving person.

in completion with the NSTP 2 project. We kick off at 9:00 am. We start discussing about the
project that we will create as a group. Each of us suggest our ideas about the service or
things that we are likely to do. Our leaders share the things that we need to accomplish while
doing the project. They are all brilliant and nice leaders. We end up with one of our members
idea which is pillow made up of plastics and other recyclable materials. Then, we discuss our
project title and the beneficiary of the pillows. We consume almost 1 hour on discussion and
then, if we have still an ideas we use messenger to share our thoughts and opinions. With the
guidance of our leaders, we easily understand the things we should and shouldn’t do. We
continue our work at home and start creating pillows individually.

barangay disciplining the law breakers. GIVING THE PILLOW “It is all in our mind that the gift
of giving is by far no measurement whilst the true form of giving always comes from our
heart.” You can’t search it on google because it is elusive. Saying this phrase, I felt that
everyone deserves to receive help, but only a few are deserving. “I see it coming from the
very start.” There is one thing that is so hard to avoid in life. The most common of all are our
choices and decision.Choosing is the hardest but not the harshest. Decision gives more
impact and I consider it the harshest between the two. In our barangay, there are 3 tanods.
The first tanod is a newbie in the service and young. The second tanod is a good guy and the
oldest of all. The third tanod is a simple man and a father. Who among of them will I choose?
I only have one pillow and I need to choose only one beneficiary. Sincerely, I don’t consider
their status in life, age and experience. I don’t choose because it’s embarassing for me. I
have this thought that if I choose I will become unjust to my decision so, I don’t have plans.
But, God has a plan. The one who needed it the most shows interest on my pillow. I don’t ask
him instead he approach me. Although, I am alone he accompany me. His willingness to take
the pillow made me joyous. While, the two tanods who I offered my pillow decline me. I sigh
all my doubt because at last there is someone who notice me. He is very interested to have it.
Thanks, Sir! REALIZATION In giving, sometimes those who are asking are the one who
needed it the most. In receiving, those who are grateful always say thank you. If you don’t
receive reply, he is not grateful about what he receives, unless he is only shy. The purpose of
this documentation is to prove that giving and receiving is a special cycle, just like when we
are recycling plastics. Both are very helpful. It takes a long process to provide and give
something to other person, but it only takes a minute to leave an impact in the life of the
receiver. So, let’s practice both. Recycling and giving!

“Trashy to Softy”

Description
This pillow is not just an ordinary pillow because it is a recycled pillow meaning all the
materials used in it are the things that can still be used and utilized. The materials used here
are old clothes or fabrics, junk foods plastics that cut into small pieces, and other items that
can be designed into the pillow.
Reflection
Our project was a recyclable pillow where we used old clothes or fabrics, plastics of
junk foods that we cut into small pieces so we could make a pillow. With the pillow we will
make you do not have to spend money because all the materials you will need will only be
found inside your house. The objectives of our project are as follows: to help clean up our
nature, to teach us to be creative and resourceful, and to teach us to value things that can still
be used or recycled. The beneficiaries of our project are the brgy. workers because we know
they work hard and we want to give them comfort with the help of our pillow. With our pillow,
we somehow want them to lose their tiredness when they see or use the pillow we made. We
want them to be happy and smile even with the simple pillow we made.
What I realized in our project was a lot. First, I realized that I could make a pillow using only
things I thought I could no longer use. Second, I realized that because of our simple recycling
and pillow making, we can help a lot and be helped, including the brgy. workers, especially
our nature. And lastly, I realized that we don't have to spend and waste money for the things
we want if we can do it ourselves with the help of recyclable materials because here we can
still save and allocate our money for our more important needs. The problem I encountered
when doing the project was that I thought I couldn't finish or I couldn't make the recyclable
pillow because I'm not fond of recycling things. Another problem is that I don't know how to

sew very well and I get bored easily with such tasks. My memorable experience while I was

On the third day I resumed my unfinished plastic cutting. I can't finish cutting the plastic
right away because it's numb and painful in my back and hands but I can't stop because I'll
need a lot of plastic for the pillow.
DAY 4

On the fourth day I did the same thing again, I just continued to cut the plastic of junk
foods, coffee and other plastic until I finished it.

DAY 5

On the fifth day I looked for old fabrics and clothes that I could use for my pillow and
pillow case. When I found the old fabric I started measuring it 18x18 for the pillow.
DAY 6

On the sixth day I started sewing the old fabric that I measured for the pillow I was
going to make. It took me a while to sew because I didn't know how to sew very well but I
made sure that my sewing was in order so that it wouldn't break immediately and could be
used for a long time.

DAY 7

On the seventh day I put all the small plastic junk foods I had cut into the old fabric I had
sewn. I made sure that the plastic was placed evenly and neatly inside so that it would look
good. After I put all the plastic I cut out I sewed it.
DAY 8

On the eighth day we had another gmeet to update our leader if we had started or finished
our project. Our leader explained the other things we would do besides making the pillow
such as work schedule, reflection, and documentation.

DAY 9

On the ninth day I looked again for old clothes that I could make into pillow cases. I found old
pants that were no longer used so I just picked them up. I searched on youtube that I could
design for the pillow case using old pants. When I saw a design I could make for my pillow
case, I started cutting it into small squares.
DAY 10

On the tenth day I sewed the small squares I had cut out to make a pillow case. I
measured it on the pillow I made to make sure it would fit in the pillow case I was going to
make. After I sewed the pillow case I zipped it up for a better look and then I put it on the
pillow I made.

DAY 11

This is Kuya Richard Laceda one of the hardworking and kind baranggay tanod in
Sabang Lipa City. Kuya Richard is 47 years old and has two children. He was hardworking
and faithful to his duty as a baranggay tanod in Sabang Lipa City. You can count on him at
any time of your need. He is the one I chose to give because he is the one I saw as one of the
most diligent of the barangay tanod here with us. I saw how important the safety and security
of his constituents was to him. I also see that he is doing everything especially now that we
are facing a pandemic to ensure that his constituents are in good condition. I am happy that I
gave him the pillow I made because I see that their work and duty as a baranggay tanod is
hard so I want the pillow I made to be a comfort for him whenever he is tired from his patrols
and so on. work as a baranggay tanod. Even with the simple pillow I made I wanted to give
thanks for everything they do just to ensure our safety. I also want to somehow get rid of the
tiredness he feels every time he sees the pillow that I gave.

REFLECTION JOURNAL & DOCUMENTATION

Name of Student: Salvacion, Reymuel Ariz V.
Name of Instructor: Mrs. Noralyn Gutierrez
Course/Year& Section: BSED 1-E
“Trashy to Softy”

Description
This pillow is extra ordinary pillow. It is an 18 by 18 inches square pillow filled with
plastics and this is the one of the reasons why our product is a extra ordinary product. It can
also lessen the pollution and floods because we all know that plastics are the most reason
why we have a pollution problem in our country.
Reflection
Our main objective is to provide comfort and increase our target beneficiaries morale
while working. This pillow can help us to reduce the pollution and to control the climate
change. I have realize that this project can give us two benefits, first is for us to have comfort
second is for us help our nature to lessen the plastics. The only problem that I have
encountered was collecting plastics outside because we all know that we are under MGCQ.
When I saw my finish product Im so happy because its done and it is ready to give on our
target community.
