LEARNING TASK #1

Learning Task Title: Introduction to Environmental Science

 as a member of your community, observe and assess your environment and

identify certain environmental issue/problem. Create an action plan to
address the environmental issue/problem you had identified based on your
observation and environmental assessment of your locality.

Trash can travel throughout the world's rivers and oceans, accumulating on
beaches and within gyres. This debris harms physical habitats, transports
chemical pollutants, threatens aquatic life, and interferes with human uses of river,
marine and coastal environments. Garbage is waste to be thrown out, or anything
worthless or offensive. Garbage, including everyday items such as cigarette butts,
plastic bags, bottles, cans and discarded fishing gear, are common causes of
marine pollution. Most of our garbage today is made from non-biodegradable
products such as plastic, which persists in the marine environment for potentially
thousands of years.

Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would

otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling
can benefit your community and the environment. There are two broad types of
recycling operations: internal and external. Internal recycling is the reuse in a
manufacturing process of materials that are a waste product of that process.
Internal recycling is common in the metals industry an example of external
recycling is the collection of old newspapers and magazines for repulping and their
manufacture into new paper products. Aluminum cans and glass bottles are other
examples of everyday objects that are externally recycled on a wide scale. An
example of internal recycling is the manufacture of copper tubing results in a
certain amount of waste in the form of tube ends and trimmings; this material is
re-melted and recast.

In our barangay here in Belison, many people throw their waste everywhere
they want to throw, the effect of it is flooding in some areas that are lower than the
other, because of the stocked garbage inside the drainages and if it is carried away
in the river, it harmed the lives of the fishes and other living matter in rivers and
eventually goes to the ocean that is connected to that river.

That’s why our barangay officials conduct a clean-up drive beside rivers,
drainages in all its streets and also in the coastline to help lessen or eventually
take all the trashes away to avoid harming the life of the species that are living in
the waters, they conduct a contest where the participants are required to use

things that comes from trashes to make a new thing that can be useful in everyday
life and also to make our barangay clean for us to be able to enjoy a peaceful and
healthy life.
