FOREWORD
This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by
the Automotive Body and Chassis Sectional Committee had been approved by the Transport
Engineering Division Council.
In preparation of this standard considerable assistance has been derived from BS AU 209 Vehicle
Security, Part 7 Specification for locking systems for goods vehicle driving components, ARAI
Safety Standard No. 311993, SAE J 838 Vehicle passenger - Door hinge systems and SAE J
839 Passenger car side door latch system.
The committee responsible for the preparation of this standard is given in Annex C.
In reporting the results of a test or analysis made in accordance with this standard, if the final
value, observed or calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS 2 : 1960
