Found out more non-scientific beliefs about the creation of the Universe. List and describe each myth on
the square bubble provided below.
Myth 1 Myth 2
1 What is the fate of the Universe? Will the Universe continue to expand or will eventually contract
because of gravity?
It’s quite impossible to tell because it has had been a matter of debate for most scientists. If the dark
energy will continue to accelerate and our planets and stars will atom themselves, expansion would
continuously happen. On the other side of the spectrum, if scientists collect all information of the overall
density of our Universe, they would come up into conclusion that the Universe is not dense enough to
continuously expand, and might lead to the contraction of the Universe.
2. How was the existence of CMB radiation support the Big Bang Theory for the origin of the Universe?
It is an afterglow that happened 13.8 billion years ago after the Big Bang. It is an electromagnetic
radiation that can be visibly seen using Planck’s telescope. It is known that scientists could detect this
radiation using radio wave located in the electromagnetic spectrum
3. What affects does this dark matter have over the rest of the components of the Universe?
Dark matter do not emit light or reflection, instead it interacts with gravity. If the gravity were slightly
more powerful, the Universe would collapse into a ball. But if the gravity were slightly less powerful,
neither stars nor planets would exist. This is because the gravity is precisely as strong as it needs to be,
and this is with the help of the dark matter in our Universe because the gravity’s mass was not enough
to control the Universe itself.
Using the Venn diagram, identify the similarities and differences of Big Bang and Steady-State Theory.
Steady-State Theory - It
Similarities - Both are states that the universe has
theory-driven on how always existed and as the
the universe had universe expands, matter will
formed into existence. eventually create more
matter.
