The Heart and the

Blood Vessels.
Heart.

2
Hello, Heart!

• The heart is one of the main organ of the body.

• It is divided into 4 separate chambers.
• Deoxygenated blood passes through the heart and
then the lungs to get oxygenated.

BLOOD, BLOOD, AND MORE BLOOD!

• About 45% of a drop of

blood is made from cells.
• There are 2 types of cells:
red cells and white cells.
• Blood also has platelets.
• 55% of blood is plasma.

6
Arteries Are…
aorta • Arteries are blood vessels that take blood
away from heart.
• They have thick, elastic walls.
• They stretch and reduce as blood flows
through them.
• They are used to take the pulse of a human

7
Vein Vernacular
• They are the blood vessels that bring blood
towards the heart.
• They have thinner walls.
• They have valves that stop blood from going
backwards.

8
Capillaries!
• The smallest split-sections of the arteries near
the organ is called capillaries.

• They are only one cell thick.

• After the blood exits the organ,
capillaries join together to form
illustrations of capillaries.

The Importance of the Heart and Blood Vessels.

• The heart and the blood vessels play a

major role in the circulatory system.
• It is an organ system that permits blood
to circulate throughout a body.
• The system moves various different
veins substances around the body through the
blood.
• This process is essential to survival.
