Mikael is a polite pupil who can work well in

Early in his Lower School career, Mikael's
approach to his learning was a little erratic:
some pieces of work would get the attention
they deserved; others would appear rushed
or forgotten. It is a pleasing sign of a pupil
maturing that I am beginning to see a more

more to maintain focus for the full duration
of lessons, particularly when instructed to
work independently as using time allocated
to practice in a productive manner is crucial.
He achieved a disappointing score of 24% in
his recent assessment (class average 64%).

If he is to improve on this result, he should
get more practice at home. He should make

Mikael has found Music lessons a challenge
this term. Whilst he has done well on
homework tasks, it is clear from our
interactions in class and his November
Music assessment that he does not understand
most of the topics that we have covered.
Miss Jackson Mikael makes a good effort to ask for
support in class, which is pleasing to see,
but he must also consolidate his learning at
home in order to make good progress this
year.
Mikael has made steady progress so far this
year in P.E. He can be disruptive at times in
lessons which has led to him not being able
to engage fully in lessons. When engaged,
Mikael can demonstrates a wonderful
Physical Ed ability in sport making excellent progress in
badminton. He is able to implement a range

attentive in lessons so that you are able to
make greater progress in P.E. You are a
talented individual, but if you complete
activities with quality in mind your
application in lessons will be much better.

Mikael has made an encouraging start to the
Year 7 Religious Studies course. He is
working well in lessons and contributes
positively to our classroom discussions and
debates but his written work needs
attention. Homework assignments have
mostly lacked sufficient depth of detail and
development – a greater use of the course
content is required to bolster his
paragraphs with the evidence and examples
discussed in lessons. One notable exception
was an impressive newspaper interview

assignment on the events of Genesis 3 which
was awarded a Commendation. If Mikael can

assignments, he should see an improvement
in his marks. During the Michaelmas Term,
he completed two assessments on Critical
Thinking and Judaism respectively and
achieved a combined score of 52%. The
latter test (5/14) let him down as there had
not been enough effective revision. He must
ensure that he is preparing properly for
assessments so that he can give the best
possible account of his ability under timed
conditions.

There are a number of areas to work on
over the coming months, Mikael, such as
ensuring that you are preparing properly for
tests and assessments. The Judaism test
result was disappointing and it was clear
that there had not been enough effective
revision beforehand. Be active when you
revise – make notes or flashcards, or
complete activities in the course booklet –
rather than passively reading the course
booklet. Your other focus is developing your
paragraphs with the PEEL structure. State
your point, provide supporting evidence and Requires

examples, explain their relevance to the improvement
question and then link the whole paragraph
back to the question. This technique is
invaluable for the six-mark 'Explain…' and
ten-mark evaluation questions and
improving the depth and focus of your detail
in your paragraphs will enable you to reach
the highest marks.

Mikael was a thoughtful presence in his lessons on Cities from a Classics perspective. He
could make some really interesting contributions to discussion, and to that extent it
Enrichment would have been nice to hear more from him. His paired presentation on Athens and
Mecca was a great choice of topic, and showed evidence of decent research. There was Acceptable - -

the two cities more directly.

Mikael has been an attentive, quiet but reflective member of his PSHE class. He has
responded with empathy and understanding to topics such as community, tolerance,
online safety and mental health, and has, at times, contributed to class discussions.

However, his target now is to ensure that he is more vocal about his opinions, actively

progress with his PSHE work, though at times he has submitted incomplete homework;
I'm sure he will embrace the new term and find ways to organise his time.

Tutor Co-curricular Involvement, Other Activities and Achievements

Mikaels report that there are a few areas for improvement. I have mentioned in Rugby, Taskmaster, Comic Club, Boxing, Football
form to try and look at the report holistically to find a common theme that he can
set goals and targets for. By doing this, I am sure he will begin to perform better
in his subjects. In form, he appears well rested and ready for each day's activities.
He is courteous and shows good manners in the classroom and takes an active
role in discussions. I look forward to seeing him at Owls' Nest.
