Normal Era as we continue to go on with our lives, with the hope of going back to the
way everything was.

Life Stories During the Pandemic: I am the hero of my own self

News Reporter
Belle (Child)
Linda (Mother)
Peter (Father)
Mr. Roberto (Owner of the company where the father works)

Introduction:
As the pandemic had struck, precious lives had been wasted. It was just in a snap and
all of us were stuck inside our home. Jobs, businesses and even our loved ones
vanished quickly as a vapor. That is when we realized how to value every moment and
to be satisfied with everything we possessed.

Belle: Mom! Mom! Mom! Dad is here! Dad is here!

Linda: Okay! Okay! Little Belle just settled down and went to your place on the dining
table so we could start eating our dinner together with your dad.
Belle: Yes Mom!
Linda: How’s your day Peter? C'mon let’s eat our dinner.
Peter: Yes darling thank you so much.

(Family is eating dinner together while watching news on their television)

News Reporter: Due to the increase in cases on CoronaVirus or Covid-19, the

Philippines is now declaring the prohibition of going outside our houses. This involves
the suspension of classes at all levels, work, businesses, and any of the movements
done outside our houses. We are all advised to stay inside our home to avoid the
prevalence of the current virus we are all against. Also, there are everyday actions to
help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases. Wash your hands, avoid close contact
with people who are sick ,avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, stay home when
you are sick, cover your cough or sneeze, clean and disinfect frequently touched
objects. This is Jackson Cruz, reporting.
Peter’s Phone ringing

Peter: Excuse me, let me just answer my boss. He is calling.

Linda: Yes you may.

Peter: Hello Sir! Good Evening.

Mr. Roberto: Hello Peter, I call you because I am saddened to inform you that I am
terminating you in our company since the recent news informed me that there would be
no more outside movements. With this, our company would be heading to declare
bankruptcy. I hope that you will understand my claim. That you so much.
Peter: Sir, is there no other way that I can still remain as a worker?
Mr. Roberto: I am so sorry Peter but my decision is final and I cannot give you the
equivalent salary since there would be lots of restrictions while we are under the
pandemic.
Peter: I understand Sir. Thank you for informing me.

(End of Call)

Peter: Linda, I just lost my job. My boss terminated me permanently from the company
since they cannot provide salary anymore.
Linda: Oh! That is so miserable, where can we find financial sustenance now? We are
prohibited from going outside and I cannot continue to manage and open our business.
Peter: That is what I am up to. However, we can still find ways for that to be possible so
that somehow we can have food on our table.
Belle: Mom! Dad! Where can we get money now? Does this mean that we cannot have
food on the next day?
Linda: Don’t lose hope Belle, we can still find ways to address that.
Belle: The news states that there would be a prohibition of classes, does this mean that
I cannot go to school anymore?
Peter: That is just for temporary, time will come that classes would be brought back
again.
Belle: Thank you Dad! I really love to go to school to learn, play with friends and interact
with others.
Linda: Yes you can do that not now but sooner since as of now we must not interact
with other people to secure ourselves from Covid-19 Virus.
Belle: Yes Mom, I understand.

After Many Months

News Reporter: In line with the observance of minimum public health standards,
vaccination is an important way to protect yourself from getting severe COVID-19. Thus,
the department of health is highly encouraging every individual to get their vaccines in
order to minimize the spread of Covid-19. These vaccines are all available in your
nearest health care facility. Don’t forget to wear your face masks and sanitize your
hands frequently. This is Jackson Cruz, reporting.

Linda: Peter, we should immediately get our vaccine so that we could somehow start
going outside while being protected against the virus.
Peter: I agree, with such action I believe that we can immediately start to open our
business and to be back on the track of trading goods internally.
Linda: While doing so we can slowly bring back our routine before. It may not be similar
but somehow little by little movement in accordance to the health safety protocols.
Belle: Mom! Dad! If I could have my vaccine, does this mean that I can already go to
school?
Linda: Yes Belle, you can but with safeguard by following the set rules in order to avoid
the rapid spread of the virus.
Belle: Yeyyy thank you Mom, thank you Dad!
Peter: You are welcome Linda. If we are just open minded to follow the rules and
protocols carefully then we can save lives, we can inflict change and we can be the hero
of our own selves.
