LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the discussion, learners are expected to:
A. Analyze the social and political structures;
B. Understand the impact of economic institutions in our society;
and

C. Learn about different kinds of authority and legitimacy practiced

in politics.
What is
Socialization?
- It is a continuing process of social interaction through which
people acquired their identities and skills in society.

- It is a learning from people to other people.

- It exposes the person to the culture of society and acquire them.

Agents of
socialization
as defined
An important part of socialization
and enculturation processes in the
social groups.

The results of socialization are

great because they established our
identity.
We are guided how to
act in a socially
acceptable ways and
because of socialization
we acquire culture that
may improve us
individuals.
Socialization is also a form
of social control. It may be
in the form of coercion: like
punishment, economy. It
may also be in the form of
language which was used
as cultural symbols.
Enculturation

- is the gradual process by

which people learn the
culture of their own group
by living in it, observing it,
and being taught things by
members of the group.
We watch our parents buy groceries in order to learn how
to buy food.
How to behave in
certain situations like
watching television.
Education is a major force in enculturation.
The id is the most basic part of the personality. It also
represents our most animalistic urges, like the desire for
food.
•A hungry baby cried until he or she was fed.
•A toddler who wanted another helping of dessert
whined incessantly until she was given another
serving.
The id seeks instant gratification for our wants and
needs. If these needs or wants are not met, a person
can become tense, anxious, or angry.
Ego: Dealing With Reality
The ego deals with reality, trying to meet the desires of
the id in a way that is socially acceptable in the world.
Hillary was so sweaty after her
workout that she wanted to change
her clothes right there by the car.
However, she knew the other people
around her would not approve, so she
waited until she was in the restroom
to change.
Superego: Adding Morals
The superego develops last, and is based on morals and
judgments about right and wrong.
Sarah knew she could steal the
supplies from work and no one
would know about it. However,
she knew that stealing was
wrong, so she decided not to
take anything even though she
would probably never get
caught.
Even though the superego and the ego may reach the
same decision about something, the superego's reason for
that decision is based more on moral values, while the
ego's decision is based more on what others will think or
what the consequences of an action could be on the
individual.
Conceptualize Deviance and Social Control:
Civil disobedience - violation of a law.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9165, otherwise

known as the “Comprehensive
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 “.

The law is a form of social control to

a deviant behavior of those who use
the dangerous drugs.
