The ship is almost put to rung-up and already maneuvering in the open sea. The ship’s
electrical load when the main engine is in rung-up must be parallel to the Shaft
Generator and Turbo Generator. Not just to save the fuel but also to utilize the
Scenario Description
exhaust gas from the main propulsion engine. As the 2nd engineer, you are task to
prepare, operate and connect the Turbo Generator to the main bus bar.

Type: Tanker Vessel

Engine: Man B&W 5L90MC
Ship’s Particulars Propeller: Pitch Propeller

1. Shaft Generator and Diesel Generator no.1 are connected in the main
bus bar.
Initial Conditions 2. Ship is in Full Ahead with a speed of 14.5 knots.
3. One active alarm in the engine room (LOW T/G LO tank level).
4. All running machineries is in normal condition.

1. Check if the instructor’s station is connected to all student’s stations and all
systems are up and running.
2. Check if right scenario is loaded and initial conditions are met before commencing
the exercise.
3. Pause the scenario and conduct briefing.
Instructor’s Actions 4. Give the student enough time to prepare prior to starting the exercise.
5. Commence simulation exercise by pushing F1 to run simulation.
6. Monitor the student thru the instructor console.
6.1 Remind the student of the time left and actions not related with the exercise.
6.2 Stop the exercise if the allotted time for the exercise has been reached.

1. In addition to the house rules, supplement instructions shall be given in the use of the
simulator.
2. Explain, that the exercise should be treated as realistic as possible as if they were
onboard the ship.
3. Explain the specific learning outcomes of the exercise.
4. Assign each student his/her specific role or task in the exercise and explain their
Briefing respective responsibilities.
5. Explain the scenario description and the initial conditions of the simulator exercises.
6. State that the assessor has the right to stop the exercises when the allotted time limit is
reached or when any deviation from normal operation is committed
7. Explain that each performance criterion of the exercises is allocated with a certain
rating/grade and that the passing grade is 50%.
8. Explain that failure to perform the critical performance criteria in the exercise would
cause the candidate to fail.
9. Ask the candidate if they have any other clarification or questions.
