Introduction
This August, the start of the school year seemed more overwhelming than ever before. One could observe
the mixed feelings of excitement, joy, and confusion among the students, parents, and teachers at Bilaran,
Elementary, School.
The first day back in the classroom was unusual and emotional for both students and teachers. Wearing a
mask, which is mandatory for teachers, makes their jobs physically harder due to the strained breathing.
Masks also cover their emotional expressions, requiring students to focus harder to equally understand the
information teachers are conveying. The first lesson for all students was dedicated to sharing more
information about COVID-19 and related safety regulations. Children were also introduced to their daily
schedules.
Third graders were overwhelmed by their first day back at school, however, those feelings would have been
present with or without COVID-19. Both parents and children are happy to be back at school and ready to
face the new challenges amidst by the pandemic.
Problems Encountered
Reading is an important skill for every learner. Reading is also the fundamental skill for the learners to
easily learn the lessons. Through reading, the pupils can show different things, explore different places, and
also activate their imagination. As the pupils goes to higher grades, they tend to improve their reading skills
by developing reading comprehension and analysis about what they read. But some pupils encounter
difficulties in learning to read so the teacher will tend to help those pupils in need so that they may be able
to adapt to their lessons.
In grade three Mabini wherein 28 pupils are studying for school year 2022-2023. Early reading skills like
letter recognition, phonics, blending of letters were taught to kindergarten pupils through the initiative of
the teacher, so that they were able to read when they reach the grades one, two, and three up to higher
grade.
The teacher had one on one reading session with the pupils and the teacher made various reading
materials and reading log to monitor the reading progress at home. The teacher asks the parents help to
make this reading development among grade three.
Conclusion
We therefore conclude that, with the involvement of stakeholder the parents, with their helped and
support the initiave of the teachers to developed and cultivate the reading skills of the children will be
successful.
