REVIEW Class can you still remember our “Yes ma’am!”
lesson yesterday?

For those who want to share about (Student’s raising their hands and
what they have learned from our sharing their varied answers)
lesson yesterday kindly raise your
hands.

Very well said everyone!

MOTIVATION Class, kindly look around, what do (answers may vary)
you usually see around the
surroundings?

That’s correct, what else do you see? (answers may vary)

Nice observation skills class. There

are indeed a lot of things that you can
see in the surroundings.
PRESENTATION Now class I have here some objects.
(The teacher will show the object one
by one and asks the students if what
is its name)

“Wallet, water, balloon”

What is the shape of the wallet? “Rectangle”

You got it right!

Can you touch it? “Yes”

How about the water in the bottle, “Yes”

do the water and the bottle have the
same shape?

Very good!

Last, what can you say about the “It has a nice color and it is big”
balloon?

Impressive!

Do you have any idea about what we “Yes/No”

call all those things?

Any guesses? (varied answers)

We call all those things as MATTER!

DISCUSSION The teacher shows a PowerPoint

presentation about matter.

Kindly read what you see in the slide.

“Matter is anything that occupies

space and has weight or mass.”

All the things around us is matter.

Starting from the air we breathe and
the food we eat.

Class, did you know that there are “Yes/No”

three phases of matter?

The three phases of matter are

SOLID, LIQUID, AND GAS.

1. SOLID –have definite shapes

that occupy definite spaces.
Solids can be held and seen.
(Teachers shows the wallet again)
I need a volunteer. Who would like to (The volunteer will come to the
come in front to touch the wallet? front)
Describe what you feel.

Now can you find a solid object near “Yes (varied answers)”
you and show it to the class?

Very good! Let’s give everyone a

clap.

2. LIQUID - takes the shape of

the container and can also
flow and can be poured.

I have here a water jug filled with

water and an empty glass. I will fill
the glass with water from the jug.

What happened to the water inside “It takes the shape of the glass”
the glass?

Does it take the shape of the glass? “Yes”

Very good!

3. GAS –usually cannot be seen,

spreads out so easily and also
takes the shape of its
container.

For example, I have here a balloon.

What is inside the balloon? “Air”

That’s right! This inflated balloon is

filled with air. Air is an example of
gas.

Can you see the air? “No”

You cannot see the air because it is

colorless. But it can be felt.

Gas takes the shape of its container;

therefore, it does not have a definite
shape.

Other examples of gas includes

smoke and clouds (shows picture).

Let me show you a short video clip

about matter for us to know more
about it.
Link:
https://youtu.be/QQsybALJoew

For your activity, let us have some

more examples so that you can really
differentiate and identify the phases
of matter.

The teacher will divide the class into

3 groups. Each group will have to
choose a representative who will get
the picture in the mystery box.

Instruction: Identify which phase of

matter does the object in the picture
belong and put it on the right column
on the pocket chart that was posted on
the board.

Solid –apple and rock

SOLID LIQUID GAS Liquid –juice and ink

Gas –smoke from the car and smoke

from the fire

Pictures inside the mystery box.

APPLICATION Let us have another activity. (The
teacher will put an illustration on the
board for the said activity and will
call some volunteers to answer in the
board)

Instruction: Connect column A with

column B.

Gas

Solid

Liquid

The teacher will check their answers.

GENERALIZATION What do we call the things around “Matter”

us?

Good job! What are the 3 phases of “Solid, Liquid and Gas”
matter?

What is the phase of matter that has “Solid”

definite size, shape and weight?

Great answer! What about the phase “Liquid”

of matter that takes the shape of the
container and can also flow and can
be poured?

Last, what is the phase of matter that “Gas”

usually cannot be seen?

Marvelous! Let’s give everyone a

very good applause.
EVALUATION Write S if it is solid, L if it is liquid
and G if it is gas. Write your answers
inside the box beside each picture.

1. Solid
2. Solid
3. Liquid
4. Gas
5. Liquid
