Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science III

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of ways of sorting materials and describing
them as solid, liquid or gas based on observable properties.
B. Performance Standard:
The learners should be able to group common objects found at home and in school
according to solid, liquid and gas
C. Learning Competencies:
At the end of the lesson, at least 75 % of the learners should be able to:
a. Describe different objects based on their characteristics (e.g., Shape,
Weight, Volume, Easy of flow)
b. Classify objects and materials as solid, liquid, and gas based on some
observable characteristics
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic Phases of Matter
b. Skills Observing, identifying, describing,
enumerating
c. Instructional Materials Pictures, real objects, DVD player and television
d. Reference Ramos E.G. The New Science Links Rex
Publishing Inc. pp. 172-180
e. GAD Core Message/ Value Appreciate the different objects around us
III. PROCEDURE
A. PRE-DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review
The teacher will ask the class about the following question:
a) What was our previous discussion all about?
b) Can you give the definition of it?
c) Give me some examples of it.
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Motivation
Sing the song entitled “Matter”
2. Presentation of the Lesson/Topic
1. Show three objects and ask the students to tell the name of each.
2. For every object, ask one student to describe it in terms of its shape.
3. The teacher will tell the class that all the things that she had mentioned
earlier is called matter. And ask them to repeat the word “matter”
4. The teacher will define what is matter. She will ask the students to
repeat the definition of matter.
5. The teacher will tell the students that all the things around them is a
matter.
6. The teacher will tell the class that there are three phases of matter and
these are solid, liquid and gas. She will ask the students to repeat those
three.
7. The teacher will discuss each phase by asking the students to describe
the object she or the learners had based on their characteristics,
through that the learners can define the three phases of matter as well
as classify objects as solid, liquid and gas
C. POST DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY
1. Application
The teacher will group the class into four groups. Each group will receive an
envelope with pictures of different objects inside and a manila paper
divided into three columns. Their task is to classify those objects as
solid, liquid and gas based on their observable characteristics. Two of
them will be their representative to discuss their work.
2. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following:
1. What do we call the things around us?
2. What are the three phases of matter?
3. What is the phase of matter that has definite shape?
4. What about the phase of matter that takes the shape of their
container and it can be poured?
5. What is the phase of matter that usually cannot be seen,
spreads out easily and also takes the shape of its container?
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Write S if it is solid, L if it is liquid and G if it is gas. Write your answer in
your whole pad of paper
1. Clouds
2. Ball
3. Pencil
4. Juice
5. Cologne
6. Piano
7. Milk
8. Soda
9. Smoke from vehicles
10. Laptop
