Ideal Gas Law

I. Objective

The objective of this activity is to make an interpretation about the

relationship between pressure, volume and temperature in gases and relate the
behavior of ideal gases to the ideal gas law equation.

II. Background knowledge of the topic

The ideal gas law, also called the general gas equation, is the equation of
state of a hypothetical ideal gas.

PV=nRT
Where P is the pressure of the gas, V is the volume taken up by the gas, T is
the temperature of the gas, R is the gas constant, and n is the number of moles of
the gas.

III. Steps Taken in the Simulation

In the first task, we have to wear safety gear equipment such as lab coat
and safety goggles.

The second task is to observe a physical representation of the gas

molecules.

The last task is to familiarize yourself with the ideal gas law equation.
IV. Obtained Results

In the first task, we have to wear safety gear equipment such as lab coat
and safety goggles.

The second task is to observe a physical representation of the gas

molecules. Turning on the gas tank would result in an increased amounts of
molecules in the jar. The burner will increase the temperature of the glass jar. The
high temperature will increase the average kinetic energy, and as a result the
velocity of the gas particles hitting the walls of the container will also increase.
The tap releases some gas from the jar, so only a few molecules are left inside.
When a gas is compressed into smaller volume, the number and velocity of
molecular collision increase, raising the temperature and pressure of the gas.
The last task is to familiarize yourself with the ideal gas law equation.

V. Conclusion

In my conclusion, the purpose of this experiment is to understand the

behavior of an ideal gas. The pressure, P, volume V, and temperature T of an ideal
gas are related by a simple formula called the ideal gas law. These learnings that
we acquired could be used in a lab to collect data and prove that this is in fact how
ideal gases behave.
