A NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE CONDUCT OF THE DISTRICT 3-DAY SEMINAR-


WORKSHOP ON CAPACITATING TEACHERS ON DIFFERENT GARDENING
STRATEGIES FOR GULAYAN SA PAARALAN

Hunger and malnutritiion are two issues that hinder student’s ability to learn,
and some of them leave school as a result of these issues. Our current situation will not
stop the teachers from striving to increase their knowledge and to enhance their
capacity in developing a sustainable gulayan sa paaralan project for the benefit of our
learners especially to the recipient of the School-Based Feeding Program. Considering
this, Buhangin District conducted a District 3-Day Seminar-Workshop on Capacitating
Teachers on Different Gardening Strategies for Gulayan sa Paaralan. The District 3-Day
Seminar-Workshop has the following objectives: (1) To capacitate the school
coordinators of Gulayan sa Paaralan with the different knowledge and skills that they
can apply in developing a sustainable School Gulayan sa Paaralan Project; (2) To equip
the teachers with different strategies and techniques in creating, developing/enhancing
Gulayan sa Paaralan and (3) To demonstrate the different strategies and techniques
needed to create or enhance the School Gulayan Project that can be benefecial to the
learning community particularly to our school feeding recipient. The said seminar was
held at Buhangin Central Elementary School SpEd Center last April 4, 5, and 6, 2022 and
participated by the seventeen (17) School Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinators. The
seminar was spearheaded by the District Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator Mr. Manuel
C. Longakit Jr. with the help of the brilliant and skilled speakers and also with the
supervision and support of the District Supervisor Rogelio A. Gargar, EdD.

Day 1, April 4, 2022- Registration started at exactly 7:30 AM, the opening
program began with the national anthem and followed by a prayer thru AVP. The
opening remarks was given by ma’am Maria Ligaya R. Romero, principal of the host
school. Then it was followed by an intermissiom number by the BCES-SC Band. The
district supervisor Rogelio A. Gargar, EdD. also delivered his motivational speech to the
participants. The participants were also oriented about the process and procedures of
QATAME by Merry June G. Cifra, SPET 1. The hands-on District Gulayan sa Paaralan
Coodinator Mr. Manuel C. Longakit Jr., presented the participants and he proceeded
with the discussion of the Overview of the seminar. The participants were given a 30-
minute break and after which, Mr. Ruben Enriquez the Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator
of the host school, expertly discussed about Organic Fertilizer.

The afternoon session began with the calling of the roll and it was followed by an
energizer led by the TWG. From 1:00 PM-2:30 PM, Celsa B. Sombilon, T3 of the host
school talked about Income Generating Program (IGP) for Economic Progression.
Following ma’am Celsa’s discussion was another interesting topic delivered by the
equally skilled speaker ma’am Stephanie L. Vistar who talked about the Benefits of

Gardening that stresses the importance of having a garden may it be in your own yard
or in school. The first day of the seminar ended with a lot of knowledge.

Day 2, April 5, 2022- A prayer was offered before the seminar began, and followed
by a recapitulation. To complete the preliminaries was an energizer to boost the energy of the
participants led by the teachers of Banganga E/S. The first speaker for that day was Mr.
Arthur Abergas, who talked about Containerized Gardening. Followed by an equally skilled
speakers from the host school, Mr. Alex Coronel and Mr. William Bernales, MT2 who shared
their ideas about Plotted Gardening.

The afternoon session started with a roll call of attendance and it was followed by an
energizer. After the preliminaries are the organization of groups and preparation for
workshop facilitated by Mr. Arthur Abergas, Mr. William Bernales, and Mr. Alex Coronel,
and the said activities went smoothly.

Day 3, April 6, 2022- The program started with the preliminaries like prayer,
recapitulation, and an energizer. The seminar proper began with a workshop run by Mr.
Arthur Abergas, Mr. William Bernales, and Mr. Ruben Enriquez, which was followed by
presentations of the participant’s output. The afternoon session resumed with the roll call of
attendance and an energizer. Then the evaluation of output took place, led by the chairperson
Mrs. Janalyn C. Plasabas.

The closing program started with Mr. Melchor F. Magallen’s encouraging message.
The District Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator Mr. Manuel C. Longakit Jr., gave his heartfelt
acknowledgement for all the effort and hardwork rendered by the people who made the
seminar possible. Awarding of certificates to the speakers, participants and TWG highlighted
the closing program. The District 3-Day Seminar-Workshop ended with a closing prayer led
by a teacher from Communal E/S. Equipped with the new strategies and techniques that they
have learned from the seminar-workshop for sure all of them will do their jobs to work for
the enhancement of their own gulayan sa paaralan.

Indeed, the District 3-Day Seminar-Workshop was a success!
