PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS:
“EMBARKING AND FOSTERING
REALWORLD LIFELONG LEARNING
TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT OF
GLOBAL COMPETENCIES”

I. RATIONALE

On October 7, 2022, SDO Laguna Province of Laguna, Santa Cruz


Laguna conducted its Orientation for Pre-service Teachers on the
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). It was led by Mr.
Enrico G. Ortega, master of ceremony and moderator. Along with Marites
A. Ibanezz, CESO V- School Division Superintendent, Oriando T.
Valverde, EdD (CID Chief), and Elvira B. Catangay , EdD (ASDS). As well
as the guest speaker Lucia F. Pagalanan, EdD, Mr. Paulino S. Caastro,
Ms Reodica R. Camacho, and Florentina C. Ranccap, EdD.
Partcipants were from the pre-service teachers in Laguna.

II. OBJECTIVES

To inform students about the pre-service activities, enhance the


knowledge, skills, and dedication of pre-service teachers to make them
more efficient in lesson planning, observing, teaching, evaluating students’
learning, and carrying out the other duties in the school and community.

III. AGENDA

On February 20, 2023, Laguna State Polytechnic University held a Pre-


Service teacher's pinning ceremony with the theme of "Embarking and fostering real-
world lifelong learning towards development of global competencies". The event took
place at the University Gymnasium at 1:00 pm and was attended by pre-service
teachers, their parents, faculty members, staff, administrative and academic council
members, guests, and a guest speaker.

The ceremony commenced with the welcome remarks of Engr. Beltran P.


Pedrigal, Vice President for Administration/OIC Campus Director, He welcomed
everyone to the ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the support provided to
the pre-service teachers throughout their journey added with a congratulatory
message to motivate the pre-service teachers in their journey towards achieving their
goals.

Following the welcome remarks, Dr. Mario R. Briones delivered an


inspirational message to the pre-service teachers. He spoke about the importance of
lifelong learning and how it can help them become more globally competent. He
encouraged them to embrace challenges and continue to learn and grow.
The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Virginia D. Aklate, CESO III, who
delivered a speech about the significance of developing global competencies in the
education sector. She highlighted the importance of practical knowledge and skills,
cultural competence, and communication skills in today's rapidly changing world. Dr.
Aklate provided insights on how the pre-service teachers could leverage their
learning experiences to develop and promote these competencies in their future
classrooms.

Next in the programme was the awarding of plaque of appreciation, presentation


and confirmation of practice teachers, which was headed by Dr. Ray Samuel G.
Grecalda. This was followed by the mass endorsement of practice teachers, who
were recognized for their exemplary work and dedication in their respective practice
teaching assignments. The Pinning Ceremony Committee was also awarded
recognition for their hard work and efforts in organizing the event.

The event ended with the pre-service teacher's creed, which is a pledge to
uphold the values and ethics of the teaching profession. This was followed by the
closing remarks given by Dr. Rosario G. Catapang, associate dean of the College of
teacher education. She thanked everyone for their participation and support, and
encouraged the pre-service teachers to continue to strive for excellence and to
always keep their commitment to learning and growing.
