Description 1
I attended the National Archery in the Schools Program at Bridge Street Middle School in
Wheeling, WV. At this meeting my goal for attendance was to gain my certification to teach
archery at Martinsburg High School. I needed this certification to further enhance my
experience with my Outdoor Enthusiast club after school program. In this program students
learn about the outdoors through hunting, fishing, hiking, gardening, and other outdoor
activities. During this event I was lectured on the rules and safety procedures when using
archery equipment, how to properly use this equipment, and education on different
opportunities like competitive events and scholarship opportunities for students. I believe this
program will give students the ability to learn a life skill and build a relationship with the
outdoors. This will give students an opportunity to take these skills learned in this club and use
them outside of school. With the Covid Pandemic affecting our community students are less
likely to interact in their environment and stay inside. When students remain sedentary it can
lead to mental and physical illness. Students being able to use this skill of archery outside of
school can be a great way for them to have a positive interaction outside of school in the
community.
