Principles of lubrication
- I think the Lube Oil is used to cool the piston as it passes
through a cooling gallery or channel built into the piston itself.
Through intake apertures in the bottom of the piston, one or
more oil spray nozzles supply oil into the cooling channel. One
or more drain holes allow the cooling fluid to leave the cooling
channel.
- I think the Lube oil reduces or eliminates internal rust and
corrosion by neutralizing acids and providing a chemical
protective layer to resist moisture from metal surfaces.
- We should carefully remove the rings from the engine and
then proceed to clean the piston, as well as, the grooves that
hold the rings.
- I think mechanical seals are provided to prevent leakage from
the volute where the shaft passes and rotates in contact with
the fluid being handled.
- I think Lubrication reduces the heat generated when two
surfaces are in motion. It smoothed the process by forming a
film between two surfaces that reduces friction and thus
improves performance and efficiency.
- I think the Lubricant oil forms a seal between the piston rings
and the cylinder walls. This reduces wear, improves
compression, and keeps impurities out while increasing fuel
economy.
