LESSON PROPER

MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTIONS
To multiply fractions,
1. Change mixed numbers to improper fractions.
2. Multiply the numerators then multiply the denominators.
3. Simplify your answer. If the answer is an improper fraction, change it to a mixed number.
If the answer is not in the lowest term, reduce it to the lowest term.
To understand well the process of multiplying fractions, watch the video from the link
below. Study also the lesson in your textbook “Phoenix Math for the 21st Century Learners” on
pages 101-106.

DIVISION OF FRACTIONS
To divide mixed numbers, we follow these steps:
1. Change mixed numbers to improper fractions.
2. Get the reciprocal of the divisor.
3. Multiply the dividend by the reciprocal of the divisor.
4. Simplify your answer. If the answer is an improper fraction, change it to a mixed number.
If the answer is not in the lowest term, reduce it to the lowest term.
