Energy Potential
Kinetic Energy

• Energy associated with motion.

• When an object is moving, it
has kinetic energy, and when
the object stops moving, it has
no kinetic energy.
Potential Energy

• Stored energy that

remains available until
we choose to use it.

Law of Conservation of Energy

“Energy can neither be created

nor destroyed”
Endothermic

Changes
Chemical Reactions

• Involves chemical change

• The bonds in the reactants are broken and the bonds of
the products are formed.
• Chemical bonds have potential energy or "stored energy".
• Because we are changing the bonding, this means we are
also changing how much of this “stored energy” there is in
a reaction.
Endothermic Exothermic
Reaction Reaction
Endothermic Reactions

• Absorb heat or other

forms of energy from
their surroundings.
Exothermic Reactions

• Release heat or other

forms of energy into
their surroundings.
Activity #9

• Read the Oxidation and

Reduction.
