1. Dimension

In AutoCAD you can add a dimension in your drawings after you have

completed draw any objects that you want. In this topic, we are going

to learn the basic part of dimension. The picture below is the example

of the dimension in AutoCAD. You can also change the dimension’s

properties.

How to change the settings of the dimension?

Before adding dimension to your drawings you will need to specify the

setting of the dimension.

 First step: click on the annotation.

 If we press on the annotation it will show you a list. Then click on

the icon as shown below.

 Then click on “manage dimension style”.

 It will show the settings below then click on “modify”

 You can change the type of arrows and symbols.

 You can change the text appearance

 Change the primary units.

How to add dimension?

 Type “dim” and press enter.

 Click on the icon on the annotation part of the ribbon.

 As usual we need to specify our first point of the object and the

second point of the object.

 After selecting the points of the object you can drag your mouse

away from the object.

 You can edit your dimension by typing “DIMEDIT”

Types of dimension

 There are different type of dimension in AutoCAD. If

you want to change the type of dimension you can press

the arrow on this icon . It will show you the different

type of dimension. For basic we only use linear, aligned,

angular, radius and diameter.

1. Linear – to measure from point A to point B

2. Aligned - measurement inside the object

3. Angular – The measurement of angle.

4. Radius – measure the radius of a circle or fillet.

5. Diameter – measurement of a diameter of a circle

2. Leader

 Leader are lines pointing to objects with a text. We can use leader

to label our object. You can add leader by clicking the icon on the

annotation section of the ribbon or as usual can use

command which is “MLEADER”. The modification of leader is the

same as modifying the text properties.
