EGO
STATES
An ego state is the way in which we think,
feel & behave making up our personality at
a given time. They are mainly categorized
into three parts namely :
1. Parent Ego State : refers to the behaviors, attitudes, and sentiments we mimic, absorb, or even steal
from our parents, parental figures, or significant others
As can be seen from the bet, Rancho was a bright student with a desire to learn, “Raju Rastogi” was
a diligent worker but was constantly unaware of his capacity for hard effort due to his fear of failure,
and Farhan Nitrate wasn’t in class. Therefore, he consistently had lower grades since Rancho is a
time waster. When they ignored his warning the first time, he wrote a letter to their parents pleading
with them to instruct their children to study and shun the company of “Rancho.”
2. Adult Ego State : functions in the present moment and rationally nalyses what we are thinking and
experiencing based on facts, free of unconscious contamination.
As can be seen from the scene, he was methodical and exact in his approach as he helped his
daughter give birth and saved the life of his newborn child. It is difficult to evaluate his engineering
knowledge while performing a baby’s delivery while not a biology major.
He must now deal with his ego because he altered his mind in light of the available information and
the situation.
3. Child Ego State : When we act infantile, or what others see as childish behaviour, we are not in a
child ego state rather it is how we acted, thought, and felt as children, repeatedly.
As he stated, “LIFE IS A RACE,” he was an egotistical person who couldn’t stand for anyone to
come before him.
As you can see from a scene in the movie, when he was riding his bike to college, a college
employee who was also riding a bike passed him because his speed was faster than his and it only
took a few seconds, but he couldn’t take it and took it as a challenge and got his ego hurt, so he
increased his speed in a childish attempt to pass that guy away.
