I – Objectives: At the end of the lesson, 85% of the students are able to:

discuss the nature of non-communicable diseases; and

explain non-communicable diseases based on cause and effect, signs and symptoms, risk
factors and protective factors and possible complications.

A1 – Activity

1. Drill (action song, phrase, puzzle, simple game, pictures, video clips, etc.)

2. Review: The teacher will ask a student to share about the previous lesson.

3. Motivation: Say something about the given pictures.

1. The students are grouped into 7.
2. Each group chooses a leader, and a recorder.
3. Each group will be provided with a type of non – communicable disease to discuss
within 10 minutes and to present in 3 minutes.

The teacher presents data of non – communicable disease in the Philippines and
worldwide (in a form of graphs/charts/statistical data) – Numeracy and Literacy
Sample:
In 2015, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) accounted for 68% of all deaths
in the Philippines (WHO, 2017a). The figures from 2015 show that every third
Filipino (29%) can die before the age of 70 years from one of the four main NCDs
(cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease and cancer) (WHO,
2017a).

Situation 1: Maria loves eating sweets. She often eats sweet things in all of her meals. What
possible disease she might acquire from such dietary habit? As a friend, how will you explain to
her the risk factors of eating too much sweet foods? Express your output in either a song, a
