participate.
We should participate ma’am

Review

Before discussing this new topic, as part of

your review class, I have a flashcard containing
the question for you to answer.

Flashcard number 1:
Question :
1. What are the two factors that influence
disease transmission? Socio-economic and environmental factors.

Flashcard number 2:
Question:
1. What are the things that affect socio-
economic factors? Living arrangement, cultural practices, prostitution and
other factors.
Flashcard number 3:
Question:
1. What are the things that affect
environmental factors? Climate, sanitation and pollution

Motivation
At this moment, to help you know more about
our lesson today, we will play a GUESS THE
GIBBERISH TERM.

MECHANICS:
Guess the term based on the letters and
pictures presented below.

1.
COMMUNICABLE

2.
DISEASES

Presentation

Based on the activity that we had, what do you

think is our lesson for today? Our lesson for today is about the COMMUNICABLE
DISEASES
Precisely! You have unlocked the door leading
to our lesson.
Our topic for today is COMMUNICABLE
DISEASES
Who among you here has an idea what is
communicable disease? Me ma’am!
What is your idea about this disease? It is a type of disease that usually transmitted from one
person to another.
Very good, as we go through this lesson you
will know more about communicable diseases.

But before that, let us first have the lesson

objectives. Everybody, let us read our lesson
objectives starting with objective number 1.
Ready, read! At the end of 60- minutes discussion the students
should be able to:
1. Identify the stages of infection.
2. Create a diagram showing the stages of infection
and;
3. Appreciate the stages of infection by means of
poster making.
Lesson Proper

Before anything else, again, what is a

communicable disease? Communicable diseases are diseases that are
transmissible from one host (person, animal, or other
Very good! This is a type of disease that can objects) to another.
transfer from one person to another.

ACTIVITY

At this time class, we will have an activity.

Are you excited? Yes ma’am!

I can’t hear you, are you excited? Yes ma’am!

That’s right! without further ado let’s proceed

to our activity.

I will divide the class into 2 groups. Each group

must choose its leader, secretary, and
reporter. I have here a brown envelope which
contains the activity materials and instructions
for you to follow. Just present what is being
asked.

Let’s count from 1 to 2

Students count from 1 to 2
Group 1 will occupy this and Group 2 will
occupy that area.

I will give you only 5 minutes to work on your

activity.
Your timer starts now!
Students work on the activity

Group 1:

Reservoir- is a place within which microorganisms

can thrive and reproduce. For
example, microorganisms thrive in human beings,
animals, and
inanimate objects such as water, table tops, and
doorknobs. The most
common reservoir is the human body.
Portal of entry- an opening allowing the
microorganism to enter the host. This
includes body orifices, mucus membranes, or breaks
in the skin.
Tubes placed in body cavities, such as urinary
catheters, or from
punctures produced by invasive procedures such as
intravenous fluid
replacement can also serve as a portal of entry.
Portal of exit- the mode of transmission is the
method by which the organism moves from one host
to another. The mode of transmission are contact,
droplet, air- borne, food-borne/water-borne, Vector-
borne (usually )
Modes of transmission- provides a way for a
microorganism to leave the reservoir. For example, the
microorganism may leave the reservoir through the
nose or mouth when someone sneezes or coughs.
Microorganisms, carried away from the body by
feces, may also leave the reservoir through an
infected bowel.
Susceptible host- a person who cannot resist a
microorganism invading the body due to
lack of immunity of physical resistance to overcome
the invasion by the pathogenic microorganism.
Pathogen- is an organism with the ability to cause
diseases. The greater the organism's virulence
(ability to grow and multiply), invasiveness (ability to
enter tissues) and pathogenicity (ability to cause
diseases), the greater the possibility that the organism
will cause an infection. Infectious agents are
bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa and parasitic
worms.
Instructions:
 analyze the given information about the stage
of infection
 Identify the stages of infection (in order)with
short definition.
 Present your work through reporting.

Very good Group 2!

Analysis
Based on your activity class:

How many stages does the infection have? Six stages

Can you name the stages of infection? The stages of infection are pathogen, reservoir, modes
of transmission, portal of exit, portal of entry and
susceptable host.
What does pathogen means in the stages of
infection? It is an organism with the ability to cause diseases.

How about reservoir? It is a place within which microorganisms can thrive and
reproduce.

What is modes of transmission? It is the method by which the organism moves from
one host to another.

What is portal of exit? The one that provides a way for a microorganism to
leave the reservoir.

What is portal of entry? It is an opening allowing the microorganism to enter

the host.

What is susceptable host? a person who cannot resist a microorganism invading

the body due tolack of immunity of physical resistance
to overcome the invasion by the pathogenic
microorganism.
How did you identify the following stages of
infection in order? Together with my group, we identity the stages of
infection in order by first doing the analyzing process
because we though that this stages is a cycle process
and by reading the given definition of each stage we
came up the correct stages of infection.
Abstraction
(The teacher will utilize an Inquiry Method in
validating their answers.)

Why is it important to know the different

stages of infection? It is important to know the stages of infection because
this can provide us the right information during the
outbreak or infections of individuals will be
symptomatic abd most likely to spread the disease.
How does the infecton spread from one person
to another? The infection can spread due to the pathogen like
bacteria and virus that is present to the infected person
therefore, as virus or bacteria lives to the body, they
find ways or path ways to get out and find another
person to be transmitted by the disease and this is
called susceptible host in which a person with lack of
immunity can be a victim with the disease.
What are the best thing to do to prevent
oneself from having diseases. There are a lot of ways to prevent ourselves from
having disease and this includes having the proper
hygiene so that every disease can be avoided either in a
form of direct or indirect transmission.
Correct! In short, we are to the only one who
can stop from the stages of infection. Always
remember that prevention is better than cure.
Each one of us must have the proper hygiene
and priorities our health above all things.
Starting from now, when you got home start to
discipline yourself while developing prper
hygiene.

Do you have any question class? No ma’am!

Application
Since every one of you had already understood
what we had talked about today, let us apply
what you have learned.

With the same group, each group will be given

this brown envelope which contains the
coloring materials and activity sheets.
Instructions:
 Create a poster making showing the
stages of infection.
 Explain and present it to the class.

I will give you 10 minutes to work on your

activity.
Your timer starts now! (the students work on their activity)
Time is up!
Let’s proceed to the presentation.
(The students present their work and explain it to the
class)

Nice presentation and drawing class, keep it

up!
Evaluation
Directions: Read the situation below about the chain of infection. Fill in the diagram by answering the
questions that follows.Peter joined the school fun run, his desire is to win so he didn't mind if he was
stepping on water wherein his feet were soaked. Even if this feels uncomfortable because his feet were
very itchy, he only removed his socks that evening that’s why it was very smelly. He hung it at the back of
the refrigerator to dry and immediately went to sleep because he was so tired. Early that morning, his
brother John saw that sock hanging at the back of the refrigerator and used it thinking that it was clean.
